January was a really good month for me for writing. I made myself a very simple goal at the beginning of the year - 500 words a week. It’s not much but it’s way more than I managed towards the end of last year. That's a really good goal and it looks like it's helped you write a lot.

It really has worked out well. Like yesterday, I sat down and wrote my 500 words for the week and then I didn't want to stop, so I wrote another 500 words. Which is what I was hoping would happen when I made this goal.

I wrote a lot of words, but none of them make sense. I haven't finished anything! I'm depressed. ;_; And, like you said, I have troubles sitting down and actually writing.

I usually have a hard time finishing things (the amount of unfinished fic on my computer is ridiculous) but I am learning that if I get into a rhymthm on a certain fic, that I should just keep pushing through until the words dry up - sometimes I make it to the end before that happens.

Though yesterday I wrote 1,000 words of something that I have no idea what it is and where it is going and will probably never touch again - but it was words so I count it.

You know, it's a bad cycle you are in - If you are depressed, you can't write and if you can't write, you are depressed - but which came first? Maybe you just have the post-Christmas blues?

Thank you, babe! I feel pretty good about this. Even though I don't think I can keep up this writing pace for long, I'll take it for as long as it lasts.

I heart the goonies Icon BTW......I clearly suffer from the distracted by shiny things when online as well.

500 words seems like a good target as well, I might take a leaf out of your book and start doing this!

So far, so good on the writing goal. I doubt it'll last all year, but I'll take a few more months of this for sure!

I just get so easily distracted by fics and images of boys kissing other boys (like your icon!) that I forget what I was suppose to be doing!

Really? You seem like a such a prolific writer, I would think you are churning out the fic like crazy. Maybe you are just less lazy about actually posting the fics you write then I am (I am trying to do better about posting this year too).

Watching pretty boys is very distracting lol

I post aa lot, but when i'm writing some day's I stare at word for hours and write five words, other days 10k apears like magic. I'd like to write more evenly some days, Did check my word count for Jan after I saw the post. Over 109000 words in January lol

Going through my totally backlogged flist, and I just had to stop and say YAY for so much writing! I'm a bit jealous. Just a bit. :P And I'm looking forward to the Jayne/Mal fic. Unf.

I can see you are totally catching up on LJ!

I honestly don't know where all those words came from last month. I haven't done quite as good this month, but enough so I keep meeting my 500 word goal.

Now I just have to find time to post some of these things I have been writing!

Maybe I should set up a goal? Hmm. But as it is, school is kind of smothering my fic muse. I have, however, written a few poems. I've never written poetry before (shut up, Buffy poem, I'm ignoring you) and it's kind of fun! But still, fic. I have have this D/C idea of a fic based on Don't Stand So Close To Me by The Police, because apparently the thought of D/C teacher/student is now hot to me. This fandom is ruining my morals. :P The question is who would be the conflicted teacher and who would be the alluring student, though.

I found that if I missed one week of writing, then it was harder and harder to get back to it and before I knew it, I had gone a month without writing anything. My 500 words a week was mostly about just keeping the muses awake.

Poetry-writing totally counts towards word count!

Yes, it does that. LotR fandom and it's bizarre fad of AUs about sex-slaves seem so tame to me now.

The question is who would be the conflicted teacher and who would be the alluring student, though.

Good question. You know, I think the norm would be Cas-Teacher and Dean-Student but I'd think it would be cool if it were the other way around.
