Key events in Dalek history?

My grad school professor asked us to create a brief PowerPoint lesson on the topic of our choice, and I chose Daleks, because why not. I want to include a brief overview of some key events in Dalek history, and I could use some suggestions. So far, I have ( Read more... )

Thank you for the resources! My main challenge is trying to keep it simple. The lesson is supposed to be pretty short, so I have to be judicious about what I include.

Okay, so you could include some offshoots.
I would definitely mention Dalek Khan and the cult of Skaro (maybe the origins of his insanity from "Daleks in manhattan", especially since you plan to mention Davros and the second Dalek empire.
You could bring in 7 and the "Remembrance of the Daleks". (Where the Doctor tricks the Daleks into destroying Skaro).
You could even mention Trenzalor.
So many things! This sounds like a lot of fun. :)

Thank you! Yeah, there is a lot to choose from. The lesson is for those unfamiliar with the show, so I'm also going into basic Dalek anatomy and personality traits.

I'd say the major highlights to look at would be their origins (from Genesis of the Daleks), some of the really major battles/conflicts (Dalek Invasion of Earth - Earth vs Daleks, Destiny of the Daleks - Daleks vs Movellians, Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways - Daleks vs Doctor, Army of Ghosts/Doomsday - Daleks vs Cybermen), maybe if you need more touch on their idea of "rehabilitation" with the Asylum of the Daleks. That right there should offer a pretty decent short PowerPoint. :)

From the bbc website http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/episodeguide/dalekhistory1.shtml give a reasonable overview of the daleeks pre and post time war (classic era, and yes they were in time war since day 1) and should give you lots of helpful info plus links ^_^

I would add the point in the Dalek Asylum where their collective database is erased from any sign of the Doctor.

If your teacher is not a DW geek I'd possibly include the WWII Daleks to give him some connection to a reality he knows. The war poster also makes a nice powerpoint picture for info on the side.
