That was...the last thing I expected when I clicked on the title of this post.

Though not so much Matt playing Patrick Bateman, more that I'm just still shocked that someone thought an American Psycho musical would be a great idea and it's actually happening.

I love the book and film though, so now I'm actually quite sad that I'll probably never see this. I'm sure Matt will do wonderfully.

I am too. But I guess if Sweeney Todd can work, there's some precedent for really dark musicals.

Welp, somebody doesn't want to be typecast as a goofy alien, huh?

On the other hand: DUNCAN SHEIK.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the story either, but hey, it's something very different from him character-wise (psychopath and murderer!), and it's great that he wants to tackle a musical. Is it wrong to hope that at some point it comes to New York with Matt? I'd suffer through it just to see him on stage. :)

I just read an excerpt of American Psycho once--in another student's English Lit thesis--and was so shocked I knew I could never read the book or watch the film.
However, for Matt Smith I would probably go watch this if it comes to New York.

Wow, an American Psycho musical? That's really, really weird. But I guess it would fit the tone. Emotional dissonance is a huge theme in the film. Lots of bright cheery scenes coupled with really horrible parts. I simply can't imagine Matt Smith like that at all...it just seems like a weird thing to do after Doctor Who.

I guess if he pulls it off he'll have broken the mold that he's established as an actor pretty conclusively. So in that respect it's a smart thing to do, given that he's still young and presumably doesn't want his entire career overshadowed by one role.

I guess so. It would be pretty nice to see his career launched and doing a bunch of great things...
