I just want them to stay together, whatever happens. I think the worst for me would be if one of them dies (again..) or gets trapped in a parallel universe or something. I'd rather see them both killed off together (though of course I hope that doesn't happen!) than have them Separated Forever. POOOOOOOONDS ;___________;
I don't think either of those scenarios is heartbreaking, tbh =X Number 1 indeed sounds like a healthy, friendly exit bordering on the heartwarming and sweet, while number 2 sounds bittersweet but hopeful because they'd be with their daughter.
I think "heartbreaking", I think death, memory loss - trauma of some sort. He called TGWW heartbreaking (or something like that) too, which it really was, with Old!Amy dying like that, for the love of Rory, despite hating Eleven in that moment.
Heartbreaking for me would be if one of them died, or if they parted ways on bad terms. I'd also include memory loss, but since they've done that for another companion in the past, I think they'll go another route. I'll be really sad to see them go either way, but as long as they don't die or have a falling out, I could live with it. Hopefully. Probably.
I want Canton to make a comeback and be the next companion, but I doubt it'll happen. D:

Agreed. A permanent departure is sad but not inherently heartbreaking--it has to happen one way or another--but if they died or stopped being close with the Doctor I would be very unhappy about it.
It'll be the first one. The second one isn't heartbreaking; it's cruel. And Moffat doesn't do cruel. (I have Feelings and Thoughts and Rants about it. It's, um, better if I stop now. I don't want to cause wank. I love this comm.)
Also, I don't trust Moffat when he says heartbreaking. For one very simple reason: any time a companion leaves is heartbreaking. It doesn't mean the in-show departure is.
As for the next companion... I'd love it if the Doctor has never met her before. I'd also love her being a lesbian. (I'm fairly sure only a male companion won't fly, simply because people will protest and the female portion of the audience won't have an "identification" figure.)

Yeah, I feel like that'll be a major cop-out because they've cheated death so many times at this point, why trip up last minute? It's one thing for The Doctor to do it, but for regular humans to keep flipping death the finger is pretty remarkable. Then again, Rory has died and been brought back so many times I can't help but wonder if that's leading up to something we're going to find out about him.
