I really hope she hasn't met any pre-Ten Doctors.

They are all quite the dysfunctional group, aren't they?

Heh, well, mostly because I don't want her to have been involved in those parts of his life. It's a bit... much. But you're quite right, too.;) Although, I must, add I don't think any Doctor was more dysfunctional than Ten...

I think it's likely River was *based* on Benny...I think it's highly unlikely that she *is* Benny because the novels and audios are not technically canon (as proven by the fact that RTD contradicted them willy-nilly with his list of companions' fates in "Death of the Doctor"). :-( Plus, I think since she's been in both the novels and the audios, getting the rights for her--even if Moffat wanted to--might be a nightmare.

RTD .... well ... he's not big on canon anyway. He's always seemed more interested in the drama and he's good at that.

Benny isn't impossible. She belongs to Paul Cornell.

I do agree. River is probably not Benny. But, it does make an excellent theory.

Yeah, this. There's a whole drama of Big Finish vs. television series canon, so ... based on seems the more likely idea.

>>perhaps it is a relative appearance thing. She hasn't commented on Eleven's apparent physical age.

"It's so strange when you go all baby-face..." :]

She knows he is younger by his eyes, not by his physical appearance. & If she was Benny, why would she need to keep that a secret?

I'm not saying my theory is completely sound. But, it is a fun theory. And, I did forget the 'baby-face' comment.

We do not know how her time line goes. We just know her in relation to him and that he met River for the first time in the Library. Heck, she could be Iris Wildthyme for that matter, ignoring the argument about being the "last of the Time Lords." The Doctor has not been reliable in identifying Time Lords. Ten didn't notice the Master on the same planet in the same city for a while.

Honestly, I don't care who River is. I'm willing to wait for Moffat to show me. Having read a ton of EDA's, she just popped into mind as a theory.
