They did the same thing 2 years ago with "The Next Doctor" so I guess it's a new BBC video tradition. Not complaining in the least (other than wishing we got the extended Proms in both cases!)

Just now realizing I don't have The Next Doctor on DVD. O_O What the heck is wrong with me?

I have three copies of the bloody thing. R2, R1 and then another R1 which came with the specials box. I swear, they multiply in the dark.

AAAAAAAH! Thank you BBC for getting the Christmas Special and Proms on DVD (early too) for us. <3333

How I wish we subscribed to BBC-A. >.> Oh well.

I'm pretty happy that we're getting them this quickly, although I do wonder if that disc will also be included in whatever series box set is released later (like they did with "The Next Doctor" and the specials set. Which is why I own three copies of that on dvd -- the R2 version (when it didn't look like we were getting it in the US at all), the R1 version and then the specials set again. LOL

Waaaait... what? My goodness. You are a true fan for even going the length for the R2, R1 and the sets (I take it that you have a multi-region player).

The BBC thanks you for your money. XD

Yeah, I have several multi-region players. The joys of VideoHelp.comI'm an idiot fan most likely -- I bought the R2 version when it first came out during the limbo of Who Was Going To Air Dr Who In The US (this was prior to SyFy giving it up and BBC A nabbing it) so I wasn't sure if/when there would be a legit dvd release for the show. Then the R1 version was released and since it was ridiculously cheap and I had Amazon gift certificates, I picked up the R1 too. Also, that was before there was any kind of confirmation that there was going to be a specials boxed set vs. just vanilla releases. This is how/why I bought the R1 version of Planet of the Dead too (but luckily NOT the R2 version since they were announced around the same time ( ... )

Ehh I am poor and will probably wait until the S6 booksets comes out. Even though I am debating even getting the S5 set as I heard the extras are bleh.

I dunno -- I liked the extras on S5. They weren't any better/worse than the ones on the earlier sets and the commentaries were the In-Vision type which is more fun than listening to people and trying to figure out who is saying what. :)

I'm sure Amazon will have a good pre-order price on this since the MSRP is all of $15. I may order now even though yeah, I'll be buying the box set too. LOL

Yay! I'm so glad the Proms will be on there. Anthony made me delete it off the Sky+ eventually (why can't we have an infinite hard drive??).

Release date is January 24th for the R2 versions, and now I finally have a job that blu-ray will be mine :D

It's nice that they're including the Proms and I'm quite gleeful to see that there will be another Xmas Confidential. Of course the dvd version will be cut down which means I'll be obtaining the full one in other ways. *shifty look*

Aw, maaaaan... I know it'll probably end up included with the series 6 set, but I'll probably end up with this anyway, simply because I want to see the Proms!

*shakes fist at BBC for making me spend more money*

Yeah, me too. Because I am a sheep and I won't want to wait nearly a year (okay, most likely 9 months) for the box set to own the actual dvd. The proms are pretty good -- even the shorter version.

The BBC's gonna take all my money!
