I didn't even know about the advisory until I got to work yesterday afternoon. And, I was told it was only for Orleans Parish, but today I was told it was also in effect in the Jefferson Parish sections of the East Bank.

I'm not going to freak out about drinking lots of tap water at work yesterday and today.

My dad was a doctor who alternated working in the US to make $, with working in CARE programs in Central America to help those lacking $. Belize City in the 1970s was no doubt the most "third worldy" of the places I lived in my youth. Electricity came and went irregularly, at wildly varying currents. The running water was similarly irregular, and had to be strained (it had what looked like globs of white bird poop in it) and boiled. Sewage was mostly in open canals, producing quite a stench ( ... )
