I Am Hallucinating Atrocities

I obviously have a fever of at least 103º. I haven't checked it, nor do I feel particularly hot, but a high fever would seem to be the only explanation for my hallucination that I just read this article in the Times-Picayune:

SURVIVOR: Chalmette

I know I can't really be reading about how Chalmette has allowed actors "colonists" to move into an ( Read more... )

Whoa, whoa, whoa. I've seen the ads for this; I thought, "Huh, that's striking and bizarre and I don't understand how it works. I'm intrigued, I guess."

I had no clue it was accomplished locally. My head is kind of spinning.

I think I've got a fever.

I watched colony season 1 and it was a joke. The people they had to run off were very road warrior-esque and you were constantly told they were actors.

That being said I'm still pissed. I lived across the canal from village square pre-katrina. A lot of people died around there and to use that place as a setting for a post apocalyptic drama is disrespectful. If I see the stuff that was sucked out of my house and into the canal (and is STILL THERE) on camera I'm going to seriously stab someone. grr.

Last season of The Colony was the aftermath of some undefined disaster. Instead of casting contestants who are attractive and likely to fight/fuck/lose it, like other reality shows, they cast people with skill sets that will likely help them to survive. It's pretty interesting to watch.
Have you even watched Treme?

See my reply to sheilamarie below. I welcome different perspectives on this and will be thrilled if the show turns out not to be as offensive as the story implies. No, I haven't watched Treme and don't intend to. I've heard from locals that it is well done, and I'm glad, but I have zero interest in reliving those times. No quarrel with you or other folks whose mileage may vary.

Funny how all of these survivor shows are doing so well, yet nobody's interested in those who are actually struggling to survives in countries torn apart by war and crime...man the locals could make a mint filming and selling their - oh wait they're not white/sexy/cute enough.
