If anyone had happened to wander into the back room of Le Bat En Rouge (having first stepped over the thick line of salt inside the door and passed untroubled by the half dozen strange runes and sigils carved into the doorframe) they would have been rather startled by its appearance ( Read more... )

Dean did the intellectual, obsessive, note-taking thing when he had to, but he'd gotten out of the habit after settling down a bit in Disneyland. Sam was better with all that, anyhow, and he knew better than to interrupt Sam with prospects such as roller coasters or foil-wrapped turkey legs when he was deeply immersed in whatever the hell he was researching now.

So he was staying out of the way for a while, slouching on the tiny couch in the back room and playing with a plastic toy that spun and lit up somewhat engagingly.

When he heard Sam call his name, he wasn't sure whether to be wary or just thankful for the distraction from his boredom. "What?" he called, but semi-grudgingly pulled himself up and trudged into the main room of the store. "What's going on?"

"Does the name Abe Kelsey mean anything to you?" Sam asked once he had swallowed. He had five names from Cayce's list left to add to those posted on the wall, Abe Kelsey, Ash Ketchum, Envy, Delirium, and Tres Iqus. "And you know there are two people in the park called Envy and Delirium? Or, were anyway. Cayce's got them listed under probably not here. And what's with this guy?" he stabbed at the name with his Disney Princess pen. "Tres Iqus?" Sam shook his head.

"Oh and look at this," he continued, looking around him for a few moments before finding his copy of The Omnivore and handing it to Dean. "The new Disneyland Police Force-slash-Watch." He tapped the circled announcement with the pen. "What do you think?"

Dean frowned, pushing aside a few papers on a box to sit near Sam. "No clue," he said. "Envy, huh? Like the sixth deadly sin?" Or else like some wannabe goth kid who'd chosen the name just for the hell of it. Was this seriously getting them anywhere? "Nice pen," he commented vaguely, then leaned back against a taller box.

He slipped a little, though, when he saw the paper Sam had given him. "What the hell... Police force?" he repeated. "What do they think they're going to have to police?" The last thing they needed here were any pseudo-authority figures.

"It sounds familiar to me," Sam said, still looking at the name. "And yeah, just like that. If we were anywhere else I'd assume hippie parents or somebody's idea of a cool nickname, but here..." he shook his head, and after a moment's consideration got up to tape Abe Kelsey and Ash Ketchum under the 'possibly fictional' list on the wall and the other three under 'Unknown.' He scribbled '3, 10?' in blue crayon next to Tres Iqus.

"I like the way it writes," he said somewhat defensively about the pen, and then nodded at Dean's second exclamation.

"Have you heard about the invisible police force?" he asked his brother. "Cayce said that a few times people have really tried to hurt each other, and each time they were picked up by an invisible force and thrown into fountains."
