Is this too hard?

I absolutely love knitting& I have a bunch of needles of different sizes and a lot of yarn but I'm sick of making scarfs. I really want to make a hat or sweater but I have no idea how to read patterns. Does anyone know how or an easy to figure out site, to learn?  I really really really want to learn how to read them!

another good book is "Knitting in plain English" by Maggie Righetti. The last section of the book is dedicated to teaching you how to follow a knitting pattern -- she has 2 or 3 patterns, and each starts with the basic knitting pattern direction, and then a comprehensive explanation of just what exactly is meant by the directions.
