"Hah! And you believed her, just like that?" Solidus sneered. "You must be from a world that's never heard of propaganda." He began stalking around Zidane, circling him. "So what now? I understand Cosmos won the last battle. Are you and your friends going to be good soldiers again? Should I tell my compatriots to expect your attack?"

"Really? Well then, there shouldn't be a problem." Suddenly Solidus calmed down in an instant and stopped pacing, becoming amiable again. "I'm afraid I can't make any similar promises for my side, Zidane. I don't know yet how many others feel the same way the clown does." Solidus said the word 'clown' with a healthy dose of contempt.

"Fortunately, in the interests of cooperation, I can make sure that you're kept informed of any dangerous developments." He took a step forward. "But in return, there are still some questions I need answered."

"I assume your voice told you the same thing ours did," Solidus said. "Find the crystals. They are the key to this war.'" He held out his communications crystal, a green, vaguely-electronic hexagon. "They couldn't have been talking about these. So what does it mean?"

"You know more than most of us do." Which was the entire problem. Despite his best efforts at learning more about the situation, Solidus was still largely in the dark and out of his depth in this fantasy world. "How did things work last time, then? Did the two sides simply battle to the death, or was there an objective to be fought for?

Solidus bowed his head behind his collar for a moment and thought about that. He began circling Zidane again, thoughtfully. "All right, Zidane," he said. "One more question and I'll consider our bargain fulfilled- information for information." He stopped and faced him. "What did Cosmos tell you the crystals were for? She had to have said something."

Solidus sighed and allowed his disgust to show on his face. "Of course she didn't!" If he still had both his eyes, he'd roll them. "These gods are incapable of telling us anything, it seems..."

He turned away. "Hrm. Zidane, I need to head back. I've been gone too long by now for someone just wandering around by himself. It wouldn't be safe for any of the others to know I was having this discussion with someone on the so-called 'other side.'" He pointed at the boy with the tail, and made a mental note to ask him about it next time, because it wasn't something he'd seen before. "I'll honor our arrangement and warn you if I learn of any attacks being planned. And we'll speak again. Agreed?"
