I am pro-life in every sense you outlined except in the that of abortion, where I am truly pro-choice.

Honestly, most women who would get an abortion are not the people I want raising kids. There are obviously exceptions, but it definably marks most as a non-humanitarian.

Also, I think it would be terrifically psychologically damaging to know that, specifically, the only reason one is alive is that abortion was illegal.

I would like there to be no abortions, but not why you do. I want the people to be educated and responsible enough to not need an abortion, where you (tell me if I'm wrong) see intrinsic value in human life.

And, I fully support the privacy implications of Roe V Wade.

Well, I can tell you that I agree that people ought "to be educated and responsible enough to not need an abortion," but I do see "intrinsic value in human life." How can there not be value in life? That to seems to me to be an overly cynical view on life. It apparently is your view and it is the result of the sum total of your life expreiences. I respect that view, but I disagree.

You mention that "most women who would get an abortion are not the people I want raising kids." To a certain extent I agree, but these people would not need to have an abortion if they were educated enough to prevent an unwanted pregnancy all together ( ... )

No, I do see intrinsic value in human life, but that is not why I am against abortion. I should have been a bit more clear. It seems that you are mostly against abortion from an moral and emotional perspective, and I am against it for a selfish reason ( ... )

Ah, yes, I agree. People need to abandon extremism.lol!

See? We agree on a lot here! And, yes, personal responsibility is a huge part of it as well. I neglected that, which is my fault. That should really be the bedrock of the whole issue: taking responsibility for our actions.

I totally dig what you're saying, and it's truly refreshing to see a person who is "pro-life", actually being pro-life. In every sense of the word.

That said, would you want to restrict my access to abortion, or do you simply want to give women every opportunity/resource to make a different choice/prevent an unwanted pregnancy in the first place (which I agree with!)?

I am pro-life in almost all the ways you list - I want women to never need an abortion - but I still want women to have unfettered access to abortion if they need/want an abortion.

Well, I'm glad! I am Catholic and I was raised to be pro-life in every sense of the word and to have respect for life, as it is indeed precious.

As for restricting abortion, as I wrote, I am not for overturning Roe v. Wade, nor do I think such an act would actually reduce the number of abortions. Being pro-life means caring about the life of the mother, as well. The mortality rate for women who undergo an abortion in countries where abortion is illegal is shamefully high. If a woman chooses to have an abortion, it should be in a safe and clean environment. And that is why it is important, also, who we elect to be the next president of the US. As the statistics show, better economies lead to a drop in abortions. I do not see this economy improving under John McCain.

I stress education, but, as someone pointed out, that education has to work in conjuction with personal responsbility. Prevention is the only way we can reach that goal of zero abortions.

That is an awesome answer! As a woman, I really appreciate your stance.

I totally friended you back. (I would have anyway, but I like having people on my friend list that don't piss off my feminist side. ;))

Thanks for friending me back!

I love women, especially strong, smart, and independent women (which is why I married one!), which is why I do not like Sarah Palin at all, dontcha know.

I was raised by a socialist-feminist. My grandmother was a hellraiser during the '60's and she passed that on to me.
