QOTD: "From a spiritual perspective, love is always present. But to experience love requires us to step out of the hurry of measurable time - time as money - into a sense of slow time - time like honey, smooth and sweet. A friend turned me onto The Books a few months ago, and I have become a big fan.

I'm about go meet friends for Indian. It may or may not contain meat. That is all.

While I can indeed acknowledge that fish is tasty, I was turned off to the whole pescatarian movement by some dolt down here attempting to inform me that harvesting fish was better for the environment. This, in a moment of cosmic chocolatey goodness, was while I was simultaneously reading a report that stated that our oceans are being depleted of resource because of increased fish preference and non-sustainable fishery practice.

Dammit, drive down here man, I miss anyone even remotely observant.

Aren't you in Savannah these days? I love that town, if for nothing else than the one bar that serves fried pickles on a deck over the river. Oh, and the drive-through margarita place.

I didn't decide to cut out (most) meat from my diet because it's better for the environment. I'm trying to take a broader view of the ethical implications of my diet, including the environment. I'm relying on local and semi-local foods as much as possible: farmer's markets, local produce, and whatnot. If it weren't for that damn pre-existing pork condition, I'd probably start eating it again since pigs aren't ruminant and are easy to source locally.

Basically, over the last few days my diet has become a stupidly complicated calculus of competing ethical interests. While it's difficult to manage, I have to assume that in the long run it will prove worthwhile.
