I was about to bitch about work, but I shan't do it today. My icon says it all. Suffice to say the following:

Maybe it's nerdly. Whatever.

For particularily long-winded reasons which I can sum up with, "Because I thought lancing from motorcycle was unbearably cool," I had made up a particular character who strove to uphold the essence of chivalry, but without the sexist burden imposed upon it. In short, a modernized chivalry--one entirely predicated towards the modern ideal of good.

The concept of "honour" was something I'd striven to uphold in my youth, etc., etc., but the difference was that it was a sufficiently diffuse concept that it could just as easily have been chivalry as well as bushido. It was less about being good than being true.

I would wager, however, that a lot of knights past weren't so true to the ideals of chivalry; in this, the modern SCAers lack of maintenance here hardly comes as a surprise. I'm rambling instead of working, so I'm ending this here, for now.

Oh, that was really what I meant. I don't think most knights or samurai were as true to their respective codes as they claimed - probably no truer than the average joe in the SCA.

Also... you wouldn't catch me dead trying to actually live by either code.
