I wonder if the sun that glimmers by her right hand is, in fact, a gap in the hedge behind her. The light is mostly blocked out by the trees, but where it can get through it sort of splurges out. The fact that the background is out of focus makes it even more diffuse and blurry. That happiness looks totally real and of the moment.

The spontaneity of this picture makes it lovely.

Indeed, spontaneous -- exactly! Fleur, you see so much! Regarding Dani, I hope you've noticed my occasional posts from her. She is precious! Truly, a one-girl international FORCE/ She and her camera (and her animals) do communicate SO expressively.

And thanks for your astute take on her photo! I of course know you to be an incredible observer -- but, as always, you DO nail these things!

You lead a wonderful, open life -- and you've somehow equipped yourself to extract from whatever encounter you may have -- well, simply, the essence of the experience. And you sustain that process exquisitely. You simply DO.

Kisses, J

Spontaneous Combustion? Well, no, I think there was a shiney something in the background and it is creating a lens flair. It could even have been from a flash positioned off camera, to kick up the highlights and backlight on that side of the picture. Why not ask the photographer?

I could do that, thanks. And therefore I shall...

MM, you nailed it with the "lens flare" -- see Dani's response below!

It's probably because the setting of the camera - the refracted light. She looks really happy and excited in this shot.

Certainly, "joy" is a commodity in very short supply!

Just had a nice reply from Dani, regarding Musicman's wondering about "even...a flash positioned off camera." I don't usually quote emails to me, but I think she'd be happy with me sharing her tech response:

"I hardly ever use flash on my photos, i think it gives them a very unnatural light and i don't like it. I just used my camera (Canon T2i) and the secret for the beautiful light is my 50mm lens, which gives me the chance to capture a lot of light because of its generous aperture (f/1.8). The weird light that you can see near her face is a lens flare..."

Well, sure...This is why I show other people's lovely photos and don't aspire to doing them myself!
