not so much pleased (introduction)

Jun 16, 2009 14:50

There is a heap of red-armored (though only lightly) man on the grass outside the Mansion, swearing a blue streak and slowly dragging himself back to his feet. He may have misjudged, just a little, and gods his face hurts. Rubbing a hand over his face, relieved to find it all in one piece, he rises into a crouch and stares at the house with ill- ( Read more... )

Jaime is doing his new favorite thing, steadily becoming a pronounced habit: wandering around the landscape brooding. It's a skill, hey.

He's coming around the side of said house to find someone in easily recognizable armor at the door. o hai Oberyn, we were just talking about you.

Jaime looks oh so very not impressed with the :| fais and the raised eyebrow when he says, "My Lord Martell."

It requires practice, we suppose. Not something that grows up overnight. And Oberyn notices Jaime, not looking extraordinarily pleased, but not extraordinarily annoyed, either, or any more than he already did.

"Ser Lannister," he says, just a bit too mildly. "Isn't that interesting." He doesn't sound that interested at all. Studiedly bored, really. This is not the disconcerted you are looking for.

Jaime supposes Oberyn should be extraordinarily pleased that his face is in one piece and leave it at that. Small favors, you know.

"Interesting is one word for it, though not the first I'd choose." He holds out a hand, to help the viper to his feet. "Welcome to the Mansion."

Oh, he is, he is. Though not considering that so much a small favor, that face is rather valuable, you know.

He eyes the hand a moment and then takes it and uses it to stand, straightening. "Should I take that as sincere?" But his mouth quirks in a slightly wry smile. "And I suppose the next question would be obvious."

Hm. Because we're curious to see how Oberyn would react to this one young innocent soul, Angelique is just on her way out. She's about to sit on the porch, dangling her feet from the bench, but then she notices the new arrival.

"Monsieur? Do you need help?"

He gives her a once over, and then a slightly feral grin. "No, thank you," he says, with a bit of an edge in his voice. "I'm perfectly fine, though I may have miscalculated certain things slightly, slightly here meaning badly."

And then he grimaces and touches his cheekbone, gingerly. "Seven fucking hells," and he doesn't swear that often. "Damn the Mountain to all seven of them and past it."

She gives him a bit of a skeptical look. "You look like you need to have care for your face," she says, hesitantly. "I think perhaps I may find something for you. Come."

And she turns around, fully expecting to be followed, because Angelique is like that.

He examines her back, and frowns. "I hope there isn't that much wrong with my face. Who are you, lady, as I don't make a habit of entering the homes of misses I'm not at least faintly acquainted with." The flicker of that slightly rakish smile hints at the dirtiness of that, but only hints. And it's not directed at her. Too young.

Someone as heavily involved with Westorosis must meet Oberyn, of course. So here is Phedre, on her way to the lake, smiling to herself, quietly.

She hasn't noticed Oberyn, because she is reading as she walks.

Oberyn notices her, though. And his eyes narrow. And even for having just had his face crushed in, she's still mighty fine and he notices. Because Oberyn is good at noticing stuff like that.

And will fall comfortably into step beside her, expression mildly amused, mouth quirked slightly. "Lady, lady, whither dost thou wander," he says, rakish smile indicating the tease.

As a good D'Angeline, Phedre cannot be insensitive to a pleasant tease, and she looks over with an amused smile. "Only to the lake, My Lord --" a pause. "You are hurt. Do you not need assistance?"

If he's not visibly hurt, scratch that last bit. Oops.

He's quite possibly at least severely bruised. And he winces a bit. "Not nearly so badly as I could be, sweet lady," with one of those quick, almost biting smile. "Though I could not say I would protest assistance from you."

She hasn't been out much, lately, but for once, Irisse is out and about. On her arm, a small basket in which she picks flowers, her other hand resting on her little swollen belly.

She sings, as she works, something odd and fairy-like, an eerie melody that is almost like the song of angels, were it not so very earthly.

For a moment, Oberyn misses the pregnancy and only sees the hair, the slender build, and hears her voice, and freezes, eyes widening.

He didn't think of that.

"Elia?" Almost quietly, because of course he should have - if he's dead, which he definitely is, it makes sense that he might see his sister long dead again.

Aredhel turns around, and looks at the Edain man with curiosity, though there is underlying wariness.

"Is there something that you need, My Lord?"

Though she holds herself like a princess of the Noldor, she inclines her head, regally.

---oh, damn. The flush shows only slightly, but he is embarrassed. "Your pardon," he says, stepping back. "I...mistook you for someone else."

Embarrassed, and disappointed. For a moment, he was hopeful.

"Well, that was colorful swearing," Belize responds to the blue streak.

Because if we're going to have a Gregor hate-fest, we might as well have Belize around.

Oberyn looks up sourly. "Trust me, it was warranted," and he shoves himself to his feet, rubbing over his mouth again, making sure all his teeth are there. Thankfully, they are. "Having one's face punched in is generally cause for liberal swearing."

"Clearly," Belize replies. "And that was one nasty punch you got there. Mind if I take a look? I'm a registered nurse. Healer. Maester. Whatever you call it whereever it is you're from."

His nostrils flare briefly, and he kind of pulls away, a touch of pride - okay, more than a touch - showing. "Generally when the Mountain gets involved everything is nasty," with a definite edge on his voice, and a pause. "...fine. As long as you don't take my eyes out." Ow ow ow face. Hurts.
