Well, normally the movement would be much smoother...perhaps it was escaping an attack by a bird...it was a bit slow. We all stood around until it disappeared.

Wow! A hooded cobra! Amazing!

(I showed the others here the video, and they were amused at how it seems to want to maintain a threatening demeanor while at the same time fleeing.)

I know...a kind of cowardly bravery..!...but in this case, I think it was more a reaction to a threat, than a threat on its own.

It is hard for me to fathom cobras in the wild. Cool video!

I love my SX30 just for the ability to shoot quick videos like this...and take macro and landscape shots at the same time, without pausing to change lenses!

Is it moving so awkwardly because it had itas hood open? dakini_bones August 1 2011, 01:47:18 UTC
It looked so strange.
Also, I like snakes but I think that would scare the bejesus out of me! Cobra!!

I also would not do what my friend Saandip did...lay down in front of the cobra, and got great shots while it slithered directly towards him! My shots are from a reasonable distance.

And to answer your question...we just don't know. Perhaps it was disturbed from its resting place and was therefore a little cramped and not fast.

From the photos the cobra looks rather graceful and not too menacing. The video stalls on my laptop so it might look differently there.

It looks the same in the video...more scared than menacing.
