The background:

I emailed a British birder who's coming to Bangalore, and wants to go birding, His visit is going to be on weekdays, when the expert birders are probably not going to be free. So we've been emailing back and forth, and I was trying tell him about

Darshini restaurants

which, I think, are unique to Karnataka...

The first of this genre, Upahara Darshini, started near Netkallappa circle probably in the eighties. And that is how 'Darshini' became a generic name, like xerox!

It's SUCH a convenience. I call Park View, near my home, my assistant kitchen!

These things have been known as darshinis for almost half a century and now comes a stupid chain of restaurants called "Dharsheni" and changes the spelling of Darshini in its wikipedia page to Dharsheni!

That's downright sick!

My only complaint about darshinis are their very liberal use of Baking Soda even in simple dishes like Cooked Rice!
