This is a neat post. We have the same thing basically....front porch swings....unfortunately I don't have a front porch or a swing....but they are cool.

Wow--hung from the ceiling like that? How wonderful! As suzan_s says, we have porch swings, but they don't swing as far as something like what you've photographed. Once in my childhood we visited a house where someone had a real swing, hung from the ceiling. I loved it!

The mother of my friend grayheyes lives in a marvelous, idiosyncratic house with a tower--and in their garden is a swing whose seat is made from half a hollowed-out log. Kids love it!

Well, I guess they are all "real" swings no matter where they are hanging from!

I would *love* to see a pic of grayheyes's home...that swings sounds SO lovely!

The only swing I have is actually very nice...I have a macrame swing, when my *expensive* S3 comes back, will post a picture of it. Children who visit my home DO love to swing on it!

"Thottil" is the simplest form of "Oonjal". And since we start from a Thottil, we actually develop a liking to "Oonjal". You will not know how many times I had fallen down from an Oonjal. Although we didn't have a formal swing, we had a one seater swing at home. Oonjals were more seen in Bram's home.

orey naal unai naan is a good song bytheway. Illayaraja is great !

Oh, yes, I did forget about the cradle/thottil....and also the "thooLi"....and the rubber tyres that so many rural children tie to tree branches and have fun... childhood is, indeed, always associated with swings.

I feel that in the time of present Rahmania, people are forgetting other talented music directors...

I love what your friends have done with (what looks like) their backyard.

Their home is really done in excellent taste....it has Kerala elements in it, but still understated and beautiful.
