She hadn’t wanted to know that. It was easier to keep him at arm’s length, to focus on her own pain and not think about everything he had suffered over the past year. It was easier not to wonder if he had missed her as much as she had missed him.

Absolutely beautiful.
And since I didn't read the author notes until after I read the story (and yes, I do know the ones ot the beginning are there for a reason) I know have to go find "Invisible."
