“Terra?”
“Yeah, Ven?”
Ventus wiggled his bare toes against the grass under his feet as he hugged his knees closer to his chest, “What’s the Mark of Mastery?” he inquired softly, closing his eyes, a breeze wafting through the hushed grove.
The brunette smirked, “It’s a test.”
“But what kind of test?” Ventus whined, turning around to stare at the man laying out on the grass, relaxing.
Terra snickered, opening his eyes as he tilted his head back and looked at Ventus, who was currently upside down to him, “A test to become a true keyblade master.”
“Oh,” Ven mumbled and rested his chin on his knees, his fingers playing with the blades of grass next to him, “Is Master Eraqus going to allow me to take the Mark of Mastery?”
“When you’re ready,” Terra tossed Ventus a grin and sat up, staring at his bare feet. He ran a hand through his brunette hair and looked up to the sky, “If I pass the exam, I’ll be able to go to the other worlds out there.”
“Really?” Ventus squeaked with amazement, his blue eyes wide.
Terra laughed and pushed the boy out of his face good naturedly, “I’ll race you back to the castle!” he grinned, hopping quickly to his feet, stretching his back before he took off down the path that led out of the grove.
Ventus scrambled to get on his feet, his hands haphazardly gathering his shoes. “Terra, wait!” he screamed out, though all the brunette did was turn and wave, grinning widely.
The boy grumbled and slipped into a dead run as he tried to chase down Terra, “You are so mean!”
He may have been running at his full speed, but Terra still faded into the distance as the path twisted through the forest.
