Little Dipper Cabin, Alcove B3 [Sunday Evening]

May 18, 2008 19:41

The facts were these: Ned had spent the majority of the weekend alone. Holed up, if you will, in a place where walls were a commodity. It was easy, you see, to retreat to this way of dealing with things. He'd been doing it for nine long years. He saw no reason to stop now ( Read more... )

Romeo came back from Verona, dumped his bag in his alcove, and was just going to get a drink before collapsing onto his bed to mope some more when he spotted Ned. "You look as though your weekend was near as pleasant as mine."

"I spent my weekend right here," Ned said, patting the bed. "You do that too?"

"Would that I had," Romeo said wryly. "I had to go home. There was ... family business." That seemed about the best way to encapsulate it, yes. "Did I miss anything?"

"There was a luau," Ned said slowly. His first. And last. Never ever again. Not after that day. "And the ceiling is very boring in here."

"Would you smile if I gave you one of these tiny cakes I got?" Kaylee asked, fresh from a JGOB run (in which she had spent way, way more money than she could really afford on a bunch of sweets) and leaning in the doorway to Ned's alcove.

"I think it would depend on what kind of tiny cakes those are," Ned said, looking over towards his door. "Hi."

"Hi. I got chocolate and vanilla, and they have pink frosting," she told him cheerfully. "I'm not sure if the frosting tastes like somethin'. And I got cookies and almost got pie, too, but that'll be for 'nother day."

"That's a lot of sweets," he said, sounding almost amused. "I've found that chocolate's quite good though vanilla tends to be my favorite, if I had to choose one."

Which is why he is standing outside Ned's alcove trying not to look awkward. And carrying a box.

"Ned," he said, "May I approach.

"Oh, sure," Ned said, sitting up some so he wouldn't seem too rude. "Come on in. I'm not doing anything important."

"You mentioned that you like to bake pies," Worf stated as he entered the room and presented Ned with a box. "I thought you might like to partake in a pie my human mother would make for me."

"Oh?" Ned took the box and peered at it, pausing before opening it. "What kind of pie is it?"
