This a beautiful reflection. Makes me think of Highlander too. Eternal youth becomes a curse when loved ones age.

Aw, thanks for such a sweet review! As much as I ship these two in the movie, I also like the potential they have for a big disconnect down the road as those differences converge.

She's never understood how Erik can look like that after making love--or trying to make love--to her

Ouch.

This revelation of hers is perfect. It's as much of a curse as blessing, when it's not shared by those around you.

The emotion of this is really strong.

I was trying to keep this short, but hopefully it also conveyed Erik's sense of loss/envy that he can't share that with her, that he doesn't feel he could measure up to her just as she feels inadequate.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful words, m'dear. ♥

Yeah, the insecurities have sort of flipped over the years. Very interesting!

Aw, I'm glad you like my take on them...even when it's not a very happy take!

Some lovely, very painful lines in this that say so much about where their relationship has failed even while it endures.

I don't know which is sadder: Erik assuming at the end that she is relieved - and proud in her superiority - that she doesn't look as old as she should, or Mystique's bitterness over his failure to be faithful to her when she doesn't care that he looks his age. How ironic that neither of them can understand where the other truly feels inadequate.

Loved this. ♥

You know what a shipper I am, so I'm a little surprised that I keep visiting this idea of infidelity and misunderstanding within their relationship...but these two come with so many problems and issues and since they wind up being supervillains, they can't really overcome them, can they? Very pleased you think this was a poignant look at this side of being a mutant in love!
