That, and somehow Dean's ignorance had become Sam's last shred of innocence.

This line hits hard. So true, and so well put.

Yep. I still agree with Sam. *sigh*

The pleasure of writing this with caelumi was getting a chance to let Sam speak, and learn what he had to say. It was satisfying on some level I hadn't expected.

I do think Dean's ignorance has become precious to Sam, like it keeps him clean in some mysterious way that he knows he's going to lose.

And yes, even knowing Sam is teetering on the edge of something, maybe even sliding over, I agree with him.

I'm bracing for the end of the season so much.

"There are... casualties, in every war. People, places. Feelings. That is why it is war, Sam."

>>And that, for me, was Castiel answering his own questions yet again. Despite the casualties, I still think Sam's the one in the right, based on everything we've seen. :)

Cool writing!

If there is one thing that seems so blatant from this season's episodes it's that there aren't clear "sides" of Good and Evil. Hell is definitely evil, but is Heaven really absolute in its Goodness? Far as I can tell, not so much.

Castiel is able to be a "good" character mostly because he's at the bottom of Heaven's food chain, so to speak. His superiors seem to be implicated in something, though it isn't entirely clear what.

It's become clearer that Sam is indeed walking a dark path, but that he has reasons for it, I have no doubt. It just remains to be seen whether his inner strength is going to be enough to keep him intact.

Dean's wasn't. He broke, in Hell. But he seems to be coming back, so maybe Sam can too.

I'm glad you enjoyed the scene, and thanks for commenting. :)

Poor boys. They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

That seems to be the underlying theme of the whole series, doesn't it? ;)

Thank you so much, your response is humbling and satisfying at the same time! :D

Through the willingness and amazing talent of caelumi I was able to have the conversation I really wanted between these two, at this specific point in time when so much has been revealed, and yet so much is still obscure. All the obsessive thinking I've been doing (as well as obsessive reading of meta LOL!) came out through Sam's lips and POV, since he is the character I feel in the greatest sync and empathy with this season. The opportunity to express these thoughts through the scene was incredibly fulfilling.

I'm very glad some of that translated and was also satisfying on some level to read.

Thank you for taking the time to read it, and for these generous comments. <3
