I wanted to ask on your last post about the Ancient Kauri wood - how does it feel? And is the species extinct, or is this just "well-aged" after 50,000 years in a bog, of a tree type still endemic to that region?

Kauri wood still grows in a few areas, but is a protected species because it is sparse. I'm told there's a tree growing in Balboa Park behind the Organ Pavilion that was brought there during the PanAmerican Expo nearly a century ago, and the trunk is over 6 feet across... It's still a baby

I am definitely going to take pics of the process. I didn't make it into the woodshop on Sunday after all, but hopefully I can get in there one evening this week, or on next weekend.
