Dear Diary

Holiday seasons around the corner. I’ve never been big on the holiday seasons. Everyone is always all excited and ‘Happy Holidays’ and stuff like that and I am more of a ‘Bah Humbug’ type of person. All I can think of is everything that I have to finish up before the new year. Everything I want to get sparkly clean so the new year comes in shiny, ( Read more... )

relatives... ugh. I don't have many and not having to see them is OK in my book. i'm of the thought where you can be related to some people, but you choose your family. I'm also not very hype on holidays anymore. I don't know if that's a growing up thing or if it's somehow just lost part of its magic along the way.

It's usually just the Christmas season that gets me down. I love other holidays like Easter, and Halloween. Thanksgiving is fine, if I don't have to entertain guests, but Christmas, ugh. I just try not to think about it.

Halloween is the best and should be a month long. but everyone else is ruining halloween for me. parents don't take kids around to houses like they used to (only time i actually like kids) and it's just lost it's shine, but doesn't stop me from trying to love it in my own way :D

There are parts of my family that think of me as a "black sheep" too. But I'm really a black lion.

Haha! It's better to be the 'Black Lion' I think! :D

I don't do the "family" thing at all, so...even if you wanted advice I couldn't give any, other than not to feel obligated and not see people you don't enjoy seeing. Life's too short!

Haha, I'm very "bah humbug" about it all too, I really couldn't care less about Christmas. That said, Chris will get a surprise when he gets home tonight because I put a tree up (he's like a kid about Christmas and I feel bad if nothing gets done).

I bet your tree looks awesome!

There is only so much skipping of family holiday events that I can get away with. I skipped Christmas last year, but two years in a row, I can't really do that. Luckily if I get fed up I'll just walk home with Ashley, My Aunt is hosting this year and she doesn't live to far away. :)

That's good. The only family member I have very occasional contact with is my mother. She lives further away, I don't drive and Chris works over most holidays, so if I ever needed an excuse beyond "I really don't want to", I'd have it. LOL

Oh ok you live in Florida. No wonder so many different birds. I was thinking you lived in New York City for some reason.

We have no relatives to get together with and after many difficult years of family gatherings, I am just fine with this. Politics were always the issue, ick.

And this is because we moved to Idaho away from my brother and sister and cousins in San Diego.

LOL! Yep we have the birds. I don't think I even came close to naming half of what I see on a daily basis.

Most of my mothers family are what I consider 'conservative democrats. The vote democratic but have issues with everyone and every thing around them that isn't what they feel is 'normal'. *rolls eyes*

I feel the same way about the holidays, or at least it seems like I do.

I'm in the middle of the holiday cheer spectrum. I enjoy the idea of everyone being nice to one another, but something about it feels so artificial and ephemeral that it drives me away. I also don't fully believe in gift giving as I'm usually very content just being around people that I love. Holidays tend to leave me feeling obligated and anxious, so blah.

I love the holidays fine when I am around people I care about, it is the relatives that are annoying, ugh, mandatory relative stuff. I skip it every once in awhile, but I did that last year, I can't make too much of a habit of it. lol
