Day 14 : A non-fictional book

I actually read more nonfiction than (nonfan) fiction these days, I think. Currently working my way through Homosexuality and Civilization by Louis Compton. It's...interesting. A bit dry (but then, it's a history book, that's to be expected) and a bit focused on Greece and paiderasty for my tastes. I want to know about ( Read more... )

mythology, things that i am a nerd about, one thousand nights and a one night

Which translation do you have? I'd be interested in picking up a copy. Am plotting a story with co-author and planning on using a Scheherazade like device in a S/D story and I think this would make great research!

It's actually a translation of a translation, into French first and then English. The English translation is by Powys Mathers. It's a two-volume set from the Guernsey Press, and it's quite beautiful.

I can't tell whether you mean S/D as a fic pairing or as Dominant/Submissive, ha. I think a D/s relationship based on Scheherazade would be fascinating.

S/D for me is Sam/Dean abbreviation and yes a dom/sub could also be quite an interesting twist. I don't think I could write it. I can do light D's but nothing very heavy. :)

This will be pre-series and a lot of other stuff is in the air, but we're discussing a Scheherazade devise and coupled with ideas your post spawned, I think it could take be an interesting way to also heighten the sexual tension in the fic.

Ah! Of course, sorry. I'd forgotten which fandom I knew you from, which made it difficult to figure out the pairing. /o\ I write too many 'ships for too many things, dude.

Ooh, a Scheherazade device like...people telling stories about Dean and Sam? Because that would be incredible. ♥ If you have any other questions about Thousand Nights and One Night, please ask, I'm not really an expert but I'm working my way through them right now and making copious notes.
