Berlin´s NYE

Like every year, I wondered what I should do on the New Years Eve. I would be pretty content staying home but every year I hear my parents say that I´m young and thus I need to go out. Saving myself the grief of listening my parents telling how I´m waisting my young life I decided to take up my friends invitation and went visit them to Berlin. I invited them to Prague last year so this year the change of location was in order.
I went to Berlin from Thursday, December 30 to Sunday, January 2. I went by bus this time since I had a 25% discount thanks to my cell phone provider. That was nice. What was even nicer was the free wi-fi in the bus and lots of legroom. Little did I know that the bus was a „business class“, I felt fancy. The 4,5 hour ride from Prague to Berlin flew by as I played cards on my iPod the whole way.
The biggest challenge of the trip for me was to get from the main bus station to my friends place. It was one full hour by S-bahn and U-bahn. But as the big traveler that I am I managed it ok. This was my second time visiting Berlin. Last visit was 2,5 year ago. My friends got a new apartment this summer so it was my first time visiting their new place. The apartment was not the only new thing they got. They bought a new kitten 4 days before our arrival. Beautiful tiny little white kitten with blue eyes, called Hailey. So of course, our 4 day stay was turned around her. We stayed in for the whole time so she wouldn´t be alone. She was a big player but not a cuddler, to a big disappointment of my friends.
For the New Year we bought a lots of food and drinks, rented some games and movies. Ele bought us 24 Kinder Eggs just for the heck of it and we were like little kids showing our little toy surprises around. I prepared my garlic cream canapés that were gone in 20min. I had to bring my own rolls from Prague. They don´t sell anything like that in Germany, would you believe it. Sad every country without rolls. We play movie trivia game on playstation (in german, btw.) and then we moved to Sing-star to my big embarrassment.
We also saw lots of movies during the weekend. Easy A, which was hilarious, You Again, which was not. I also made the girls watch The Kids Are Alright which I had a big expectation for but I didn´t find it that great. Maybe watching it with the room full of cynics mocking every scene wasn´t that good idea.lol Girls wanted to see Disney´s Tangled so we did and it was surprisingly very funny and nice. So I´ve seen all this movies that haven´t even been in our cinemas yet. I wonder what I´m going to watch in cinemas this year when I´m in advance. At the end we also watched one classic movie Say Anything.
After 3 days laying around in the apartment I needed to go out and see something so I would at least have a feeling that I was in Berlin. Ele went with me, it was late afternoon. We got off in the center and walked around a lot. There was lots of melting snow in the streets which didn´t make the walking that easy, plus my boots were soaked through pretty soon. We walked from the Berliner Dome, along the Unter den Linden to the Brandenburg Gate and from there to Potsdam Platz where we stopped in Starbucks (where they didn´t have the christmas flavored coffee anymore!). The city looked much more prettier at night in the lights. I have wanted to see the remains of the Berlin Wall since my first visit but we didn´t make it there last time so Ele took me there this time. There´s a place called East Side Gallery with lots of art paintings on the wall. At the end of our walk I was really cold and tired so I couldn´t wait to get to my friends places where we made pizzas and watched Tangled. Perfect ending of the day.
The next day I went home which was kind of uneventful except that the bus stood in a traffic jam for an hour near Dresden.
So that was my end of the year. It was great to see the girls again.
