So, The Hobbit (spoilers behind the cut)

Dec 16, 2012 10:41

Despite being as sick as a dog and despite the fact that the babysitter cost a small fortune, The Hobbit was so worth it! I am going to try to see it at least once more in the theater if I can, and if you know how rarely I make it to the movies since munchkin, that is quite an endorsement ( Read more... )

My friends and I keep lamenting that Peter Jackson is determined to make dwarves hot and warp people's attraction meters, but honestly, Richard Armitage!

Going to see it tomorrow, I hope I enjoy it as much as you did. :D

Hey, as long as he doesn't make Orcs hot, I am all good. It probably helps I like my dudes hairy though :)

Hope you like it!

It doesn't matter what Richard Armitage looks like, I could listen to his voice all day... but he does look good :)

I don't know when I'll get to see this.

Well, they are an established OTP in the rest of the books so...tbh, I didn't have a problem with the development in the first book (I prefer established couples coping anyway) so not sure if my opinion is very helpful, but I liked the way they handled the romance in the series.

I've read about Evangeline Lily and apparently she will be in a second movie. I'd love a romance but I think purists would hunt PJ down so not sure if he'll go that way.

Yes, the world building was amazing.

I see. I'll finish the second book and decide whether I'll continue or not then (right now I'm at the part where Simon becomes a vampire). I love it when there's at least a bit of romance in a series but here I actually find myself reading for the action/mystery stuff and the romance is sometimes kind of distracting because I don't feel invested in it. I almost feel like Clary has more chemistry with Simon. Maybe because they seem to have much more 'private' scenes together ( ... )

Yeah, that's true about romance not being necessary in canon. That's OK with me as long as fanon takes up the slack.

I love Eowyn/Faramir in the books but I am an Aragorn/Arwen girl in the movies.

I've heard there will be some kind of forbidden romance between an elf interpreted by Evangeline Lilly and another elf whom name I can't remember. Peter Jackson says it won't happen but the fandom (the purist fandom) is freaking out.

Oh dear. I'm a bit concerned that you think it's not suitable for kids. My 9 & 11 year old sons are desperate to see it! I haven't let them near the LOTR movies yet because I think they're too young, but I was hoping they might be able to see The Hobbit.

It's a lot more child friendly than LOTR but it is rated PG13. My own kid is 3 and a scaredy cat to boot, so I have no idea how a 9 and 11 year old would react - there are some scary-looking orcs there.

I took my daughter who will be 9 in January but would have left her at home if we had a sitter. It's pretty intense at times but I suppose it depends on what they are used to. I covered her eyes during fighting scenes but she still saw snippets. She told me later there was only one spot that she thought was "yucky" but that she just kept reminding herself it's all pretend and she also said that it wasn't any worse than the latter two Narnia movies. (It was slightly more, to me - I think it was more violent than the LOTR movies - but really not too, too bad. There's nothing gorey but there is an arm chopped off, a decapitated head waved around and a huge monster tummy sliced. But again, not gorey. Hope that helps!
