I barely had any sleep, my eyes keep hurting, and I am getting a bit dizzy, but I cannot stop watching and am too hyper to fall asleep. I am also talking at all these characters non-stop which is a sure sign of insanity. It took me about two-and-a-half hours to get through the 40 minutes which constitute not-credits running time of ep 8 because I ( Read more... )

These posts make me want to try again with a bit of speed applied to what seemed to be endless "men discussing politics" scenes, but...uhm...I hope "reward" is a loy better in context than out...

Wel, the context is he and Diaochan were in love and engaged - he proposed and she happily accepted.

Then, due to Diaochan's father's manipulations, Dong Zhuo, the creepy ruler dude, saw Diaochan and decided he wanted her for a concubine (under pretext of marrying her to 9yr-old emperor but of course sleeping with her himself). And Diaochan met her fiance and reiterated that she loves only him and doesn't want to be imperial consort/de-factor ruler's sextoy.

So he went to beg.

So yeah, it's not bad at all in context in the sense of him treating her as a thing or anything.

I like men talking politics but if you don't, there's a lot of ffing :)

dIt's not so much the men talking about politics (I like politics in my period dramas) as it is that that's my code for infodumping in period dramas, as that's usually the form it takes. I do good for a bit and then ADD takes over and the logical part of my brain that acknowledges necessary things like time, budget and casting takes a back seat to getting bored by people talking about something instead of my actually getting to see it, even as sketchy narrated flashbacks or whatever, and when something starts off with a lot of that, it throws me out.

It eases on that a lot after the first four eps, fyi. So it shouldn't be too bad.

To me, 3K is basically like an icelandic saga adapted perfectly to screen (only it's a Chinese epic but you know what I mean) - tons of characters, heavily historical and sociological but also with some amazing battles and ships. i.e. my perfect drama.

At this point I'm wishing that Lu Bu goes berserk on their asses and kills (graphically) both the evil gnome Dong Zhuo and creepy Minister (new candidate for worst father ever) and rides off into sunset with Diaochan and I don't need the 80 something more episodes.

How far in are you? :)

My wanted-for ending for this whole arc is for Lu Bu to decapitate both the horrible men, and then he and Diaochan could have a wedding feast with the corpes of their awful adopted fathers for decoration.

The thing that drives me nuts about the Minister is that there isn't any doubt DZ is a monster from the start but Minister walks around being all supposedly honorable and proper. Hah! The scene where he was eavesdropping on LB/DC being heartbroken and crying, and was grinning because it was all going according to plan made me want to stab him myself.

Also, did you notice, all his plans always put other people at risk (CaoCao, or Diaochan and Lu Bu). He just sits back in his house.

I finished ep 10 and I had to take a break because had to feed family and obsessions not healthy. Yeah, Minister is "really brave and daring" in putting everyone else in danger and in horrific situations (his daughter especially)and I wouldn't mind him being prepared to sacrifice everything and everyone for the "cause" but he feels no remorse in a sense "I did this for a higher cause but I feel a bit bad" but no he is gleeful in his depravity and is a good damn coward. You are right he is in a way much more despicable then evil gnome warlord who was simply disgusting, lecherous and bloodthirsty. I get too invested in characters and I do not deal well with rapey situations but awesomeness of Lu Bu and his pretty, pretty hair helps. There is a great Mars like moment in ep 10 you will love, which helped heal my angst induced scars. Sorry for being so verbose.

Yes, I am in the middle of ep 9 and I know I need to take a break, if for no other reason that I need to keep my hair untorn out of my head.

Yes, the Minister is all gleeful and grinny and I want to stab him - doesn't it bother you your daughter is suffering horribly and is probably scarred for life. (Hey, losing one's virginity to Cannibal Creep is horrifying enough all by itself and she has to live with him). And yes, her father is such a coward - he never spoke up, always bowed down etc etc. But when it's other people's lives and happiness, he's always ready to sacrifice them.

Yes, I don't deal well with rapey situations either - except for Mars and The Outsiders, I've never really seen a drama address one though (well, East of Eden, but the less I talk about how they handled that one, the better). At least in Mars, Xi Luo wasn't forced to volunteer herself for such 'fun' via monster parental blackmail. Poor Diaochan isn't even allowed to struggle. Eeeeeeek.
