This is completely OT, but your icon somehow made me flashback to that slave girl and all those gisaengs who would hit on General Choi and I had to lol. :D
I have to say that you are really tempting me with this, what with all these HYD comparisons! Where did you say you were watching it? And I love Kazuya too; I've been on a major HYD kick recently (manga, anime, all drama versions), and I feel his lack in the j- and k-dramas. He's such a lovable dweeb, and he's so faithful :-)
I have to say, in some ways JPLH really makes Hanadan make super-sense by sticking it in a period context - of course this version's Domyouji is going to be arrogant and violent - he's an 18th century prince. And it really raises the stakes - so much potential for dying. They seem to be taking their OTP stuff a lot from Meteor Garden, which is my favorite adaptation, so yay! (The poltics/infighting stuff is not Hanadan of course, so it's a fun mixture of familiar and strange).
Oh awesome, thanks! It doesn't look too hard to use :-). I shall get stuck in right away! (And there's always been something - not quite anachronistic, but still not quite of the "here and now" about the whole uppercrust society in HYD. I think you're right that it'll make sense in a period drama.) MG OTP=love!
A lot of the stuff that was a bit OTT in the modern context fits like a glove in the period one.
1. "They are different then us" - well, yes, they are royalty and there is no upward mobility unless you are a hot woman who snares one. 2. Whole place can turn violent in a second - yes, their lives depend on obeying and climbing ahead. 3. High OTP stakes - yeah, love rivals and parents can get you offed. 4. Hero never had anyone contradict him ever.
