friendships over time

I met a friend from elementary school last spring. The last time we’d seen each other had been 6th grade - before puberty hit either of us - and we hadn’t been in touch since. (It was right around then that I moved five hours away, down the east coast to another state.) But I had been in touch with another girl, and, as things work, had gotten back ( Read more... )

I've been thinking about that a lot also. Today my best friend from elementary school asked if I wanted to be project partners, and it would have been really easy (extremely so) to say yes and just go with the comfortable, go with what I've always done, but I said no.

We've always had that sort of BFF relationship in elementary school. We did everything together, ignored everyone else, and lived in our own little world. But now that I've developed an interest in the rest of the world, I can't help noticing how much being with her holds me back from interacting freely with it the way I desire.

Also, you've "lost touch" with your third friend, but maybe in a year she'll email you back and you'll suddenly be best buds again, like before!

Sorry for randomly barging into your journal by the way. I was browsing behindpyramids' friends list coz... she has really interesting friends! (: haha ( ... )

Sometimes it's best to move away from friends, even for a short time, so you can get to know yourself better. I really liked going to a college where there was no one I knew; it's a growing experience.

And hi! Nice to meet you!

I sometimes ponder these things, too. A friend of mine insists there are soul trees--which explains instant affinity with some people, and that sense of connectedness that can last an entire lifetime.

I like that image, but I'm not quite sure what it means in terms of connections. Could you explain a bit more?

I've heard that great friends are people you've met in a past life. I like the idea a lot.

She says that there are trees or families of souls--may or may not include reincarnation--which explains the instant affinities that some have.

I like that. I'll have to think on it more.
