Day 47: Doctor's Office 7 (Dr. Suresh) [Second Shift]

Jan 29, 2010 00:04

Mohinder sat at his desk with his arms crossed over his chest and a calm that somehow managed to cover the inner turmoil he had over that day's short list of patients. One was just going to grate on his nerves, if this time was anything like the last. He could deal with that. It was the day's other patient that had him wanting to call in sick ( Read more... )

"'Morning, Sunshine!" Yuffie announced, waltzing into the room.

She didn't want to be here, but she could always try to make the best of it. If nothing else, driving him up the wall would be, like, twelve different kinds of entertaining. And then there was always her secondary objective; to find Stuff out about this guy. Yuffie twirled on the ball of her foot, twirled all the way over to the chair. "Thanks for the balls, by the way. I was totally tempted to stuff 'em up an orderly's nose, but I decided to save 'em for a special occasion."

Twirled right up to the chair, and then twirled right past it. Yuffie leaned casually against the desk, casting a bored, if curious, eye around the office. "So, I feel so much lighter now. Having that off my chest, I mean. It was weighing on me. Like a brick, or maybe a boulder." The chatter flowed on, easy as a river after the spring rainfalls, while the ninja logged her observations in the back of her mind. Or, actually, not the back. The middle? The left, or the… Anyway.

Oh, this day was already starting off brilliantly.

Mohinder cleared his throat, not moving from his chair. "Well, I'm sure orderlies would appreciate the sentiment if they knew." The last thing he needed was for her to be causing trouble with something he'd given her. He'd be admonished for that for sure, and it'd be a downright embarrassing thing to be reprimanded for.

He'd had several ideas in mind for how to handle this girl when she came in today, but thinking up a plan for this sort of thing and actually implementing it were two different matters. This was going to go downhill quickly if he wasn't careful, and how would that speak for how he was going to handle the patient that came after her?

"Why don't you go ahead and make yourself comfortable and we'll get down to business, Miss Bloom."

Sylar had almost thought that his 'therapy' had been put on hold as he exited the cafeteria, and it wasn't until a nurse put a hand on his shoulder and asked him to move away from the rest of the crowd that he realized he and Dr. Suresh were still on for their little meeting.

He chuckled to himself as he was led out of the Sun Room. First Peter, now Mohinder? It was like this place was trying to give him a home away from home, even if it was only populated by self-righteous assholes - some of whom didn't even recognize him. How sad.

And on the other hand, how fortunate. If Suresh couldn't recognize him as Sylar, it'd be much easier to get him in a position of false security. Maybe, if Sylar turned the right knobs, he'd make the doctor feel comfortable enough that he'd start giving away some information - maybe not any really useful information, but enough that Sylar could use it to figure out bigger, better things. That was exactly how he'd used Suresh before; he had no reason to think he couldn't do it again ( ... )

That was a promising greeting, and Mohinder did his best to smile at the patient as he entered. This was the man who thought he was Sylar, and he still didn't have any idea what the connection was between him and the actual killer he claimed to be. The file gave him very little to go on in that regard.

On the other hand, he'd gotten word that this particular patient had shown signs of improvement, which could be promising. Part of him wanted to regard Zachary as someone who thought the same way Sylar did, and thus might just be playing along for the sake of him and the nurses - to lure them into a false sense of security. However, if he allowed himself to focus too much on that he wouldn't be able to handle the man as though he really was recovering and that was what he really needed to do. Suspicions should come if there was good reason, but not at the very start of therapy.

"Hello, Mr. Blaine. I admit you threw me for something of a loop then. Are you aiming for a better session this time?"

"Oh, definitely, definitely," Sylar said emphatically as he slid into his seat. He kept his eyes on Mohinder the whole time, still half-expecting some kind of sudden pallor or change in expression, but - nothing. Landel had really done a number on the good doctor's brain, but the question was how.

If only Sylar could examine it...

But as much as he could dream about figuring out how the people here were messing with their cronies, he only had words to help him now. Words and practice with using them.

He glanced away sheepishly. "I've been feeling better lately. You know, realizing just how crazy this has all been, finding myself again..."

He continued watching Mohinder out of the corner of his eye. That was a good question too: just how much did Dr. Suresh know about 'Zachary Blaine'?

[I am so incredibly sorry for the delay. -_-]

It was relieving to know that he wouldn't have to go through another session with a man who thought he was Mohinder's worst nightmare, and the doctor visibly relaxed as Zachary spoke. It looked as if the nurses had been right about his improvement, as long as this wasn't just a front.

"That's good to hear." He smiled genuinely, folding his hands together on the desk in front of him. "Do you remember when this began? Your change of heart, I mean. Was it due to any treatment you were given, or did you come about this decision on your own?"

After all, if they could find out what had happened with this man, they might also be able to deal with the patient who thought he was Peter Petrelli. He couldn't help but think the two issues were related.
