Hanyuu stretched, yawning slightly before she rolled over and tugged the blankets around her more securely. She wasn't entirely sure why, but she felt... pretty good for once. Well-rested, as though she'd been sleeping for quite a while. That was a little odd since she rarely felt that way upon waking in this place, but she decided not to think about it too much. Instead, she'd simply take it as a good thing and just leave it at that ( ... )

Die! Die!

I can't lose again!

So die already!

Die! Die!

Why won't you just die?!

Why can't you--?

Asuka rolled over in her sleep, bare feet sliding underneath the sheets to find a cool spot on the mattress. They couldn't seem to find one. Flopping once more over on her back, her feet kicked at the sheets to pull them down from her sweltering body. Ugh, why was this not working?! This called for drastic action. Pulling her knees to her chest, she lunged out. The sheets lifted from the bed and slowly pooled around the base of the mattress.

Better.

She didn't really want to get up, but after that exertion (and the fact that the whole ordeal just made her that much hotter) there was no point in feigning sleep. Her eyes cracked open and found an unfamiliar ceiling. Well, she wasn't in her room, that was easy to conclude. What had she ( ... )

The rice didn't taste too bad, Hanyuu realized, and it wasn't spicy either. The familiarity of tasting food via the link she shared with Rika was a comfort, and it took a few seconds for her to realize that it had been a while since it had come into play. She hadn't seen Rika since the night she'd found her and Arlene, so that made her even happier. It was an immense relief to know that her friend was okay.

The relief, however, was a bit short lived, as the person occupying the other bed finally started moving around. Hanyuu had simply assumed it to be Sakura, so when an unfamiliar voice spoke out, she quickly turned to get a look at the person.

"Ah!" The spirit immediately sat up again, her eyes widening slightly. What had happened to Sakura...? Hanyuu hadn't really talked to her too much during the time they'd been roommates, but the girl had seemed nice enough. Had she disappeared? Just like Shana had ( ... )

"What?!" The exclamation was about an octave away from shattering glass. How could this girl not know about the angel attack? "Are you a civilian?" She tried again, leaning closer so the girl could feel the full brunt of her scrutiny. Ugh, her little noises reminded her of a certain brown-haired puss' stuttering. This day was souring by the minute. "Maybe you have head trauma or something..." Was that possible? Could she be a student from a nearby school? She looked young enough. Perhaps she was caught in the crossfire. Hmmm but why would they allow civilians, a child even, to be treated at the NERV clinic. She could be the kid of a staff member.

Oooowwah! This was getting her nowhere! She needed real answers, not wild speculations! "Who are you?" The second child finally asked, thrusting her finger at the young girl's face. "What part of NERV personnel is your parent from?"

The day seemed to move quickly. It was actually a welcome change from the last two days, and a bit closer to the normalcy Minato had back in Iwatodai. The majority of his time was spent in Tartarus, climbing to the next block in search of the very top. But the top remained out of reach even by the end of the year, and now he was trapped in the institute.

His eyes trailed over to his bed as he was brought back to his room. Hopefully everything was still in order; having someone completely capable of scouring his bed and closet for contraband was a new danger, and one he didn’t want to deal with-especially right after he managed to find items worth hiding away.

Minato’s eyes finally rested on the dinner for the evening. Teriyaki and tempura-Japanese dishes that were commonly available in America. He thought fondly of takoyaki and wild-duck burgers as he sat down to eat.

Finally, Frank was led back to his room. He was glad to have the day almost over with, as though the next day would be better... but at least he could sleep.

Of course, he'd forgotten about his roommate. So far, it looked like a fifty-fifty chance that Minato - or was it Daniel? - was delusional and going along with whatever he heard, like the night before, or had come to his senses. Of course, he'd only been in the institute for a day, but he seemed pretty reasonable to begin with.

He decided to start a conversation and asked, innocently enough, "So how was your day?"

Minato looked over as Forte was led in. With all that he had been seeing on the bulletin board, he wasn't quite sure what to expect from his roommate.

Not that he was sure what to expect from someone who believed the lies the nurses told. He would be honest. "Quiet. For the most part." He poked at his food before speaking again. "Yours?"

Frank lowered himself awkwardly into his seat, "Definitely not quiet." He'd gotten into two shouting matches, commiserated with a couple of patients, and been implicitly rejected by a crazy girl that thought she was a magically ninja. "I think roller-coaster would be an understatement."

Once settled, he looked at his meal. He'd had teriyaki fast-food before, but not the 'tempura' stuff or the soy beans. It was weird, but fancier than most stuff he ate on the outside, so he gave it a shot, skewering a piece of fried shrimp and taking a bite. "Kinda dry," he commented, before pouring some of the soy sauce on the rest.

He waited until Yue had gone before picking himself up off the couch. It was still painful to move or bend at the waist with his wounds and at least when the nurse dropped him off at his room, she was nice enough to give him some painkillers along with his usual medicine.

One gulp and the small plastic cup with its brightly colored pills was empty. He handed it back to the nurse, though when he saw the night's meal, he wasn't terribly thrilled. He just didn't have a taste for food like this, no matter how many times or different ways they served it. The chicken was alright, though the sauce took some getting used to. He picked it apart with his fork while he waited for his roommate to show up. Hopefully it would be Allie tonight and not the more frightening counterpart.

The meeting with Soma... no, she was calling herself Maria now, not even Marie, but Maria, and that stung like anything because it meant that she didn't recognise any part of her life, or any part that he might have played in it. It hurt like he'd never imagined it would.

He couldn't help but wonder if Marie would let him be there like Soma never would and like Marie never had the chance to. But ah, that way lies a madness that he can't cope with and Allelujah has always lived for the present. The past hurt and the future was a very very uncertain thing.

And now he had to face his roommate. He wrapped his arms around himself defensively as he entered the room, going to perch on his bed until the nurse left them alone. He took a breath, looking up at Fai, gold eye completely hidden. "I'm sorry, Fai. I'm so sorry." Fai had been hurt because Hallelujah... because they'd wanted to hurt something.

He'd been poking at the dinner for several minutes before the nurse turned up with Allie. It was worrying, the boy looked so frightened and small now compared to last night. And he was apologizing. Why?

"Allie, it's fine," he assured the boy, hoping that he wouldn't be corrected on the name again today. "Don't be sorry; there's nothing to apologize for."

Allelujah didn't object to the name, actually smiling a little when he heard it. Fai was still using a nickname for him, the first that he'd been given, so he couldn't hate him too much, right? "No, I have to apologise. You got hurt because of me. Because of what he... what I did." That man could have killed them both because of his recklessness and he wasn't going to stand aside and claim that it was Halleluah's fault. He had to take responsibility for his actions.

"Hallelujah is... he's me. I have a split personality, but he's still me. I can't just shift the blame onto him."

One fucking thing on top of another, Mello thought as he left the game room, fuming and more confused than he'd show or admit after his attempt to talk to 'Daniel.' Raging at the nurse would do nothing. She was useless, and venting his fury now would only get him more up close and personal with the orderlies he'd seen around than he wanted to be, or tossed in whatever Landel's equivalent of solitary was. Choose your battles, he told himself, not for the first time. Soon it would be night, the doors would be unlocked, and he'd be able to get the hell out of here.

The intercom announcement only added to his irritation. It'll be a cold day in hell before I eat anything you condescending fuckers give me.

Mello had hoped he wouldn't have to deal with a roommate on top of all the other annoyances this place had to offer. No such luck, he discovered, when the nurse opened the door to his room and he stepped in. "How nice for you," the nurse chirped. "A new friend!" Mello was tempted to tell her to assume Come the fuck off it, lady was his ( ... )

Mello completely ignored the food, and leaned back against the door, frowning heavily, though not at Emmett. "They'll say it's a mental hospital called Landel's, and feed you this bullshit line about how you're here to get better. Of course, getting better, according to them, means you forget who the fuck you are, and call people who look up to you delusional." Not that he was bitter, or anything. "Presumably, it also means you drop the kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment charges out of gratitude once they let you go." He gave a disgusted huff to underscore the sarcasm.

Mello wasn't going to clue him in that he shouldn't get too used to the company, but the guy seemed friendly (and harmless, and sane) enough, and at this point, anyone who was neither claiming they'd met him when they hadn't, nor denying it when they had, was an improvement. He stepped closer to the bed and held out his hand. "I'm Morgan."

Today marked a full week since Anise last saw her roommate. The girl had accepted some time ago that she was probably never going to see Ami again. Still, she wished she knew what had happened to the girl ( ... )

Rika nodded to her nurse when she asked if she had a good first day. It was best to appease her, she thought; she really hadn't, but at least she knew where she was, and knew that it was a different kakera from her own. "Rachel, this is your room," the nurse said, once they were down a few halls. "I hope you and Dolores get along well. I'm sure that you will." With that, she left, leaving Rika ( ... )

Anise thought she heard the door opening, but she decided she must have been hearing things. She had been alone in this room for a long time. It just seemed too unlikely that someone would come in now, when every other night was nothing but silence.

But then she heard the quiet voice, and her eyes opened wide. Ami!? But that thought died out in an instant as she registered what the girl was saying. Anise quickly sat up in her bed, looking over at the stranger in surprise ( ... )

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to startle you, or to wake you! I'm really sorry. I was just a little worried." Rika bowed apologetically. She really hadn't meant to be rude.

"It does," she said, fidgeting a little. She really hadn't meant to make a bad first impression; it was just her nature to try and be helpful. "So I'm sorry we got off to a bit of a bad start. Like I said, I'm Rika," she said, trying to smile a little. "It's nice to meet you. I like your doll," she said, gesturing to Tokunaga.

With that, she crossed to her side of the room, nibbling on a little rice. It wasn't bad, she thought, though...all this reminded her of home.
