Day 40: Greenhouse

Apr 01, 2009 14:53

Yuffie was in two minds about how the 'meeting' with Orangello had gone. No, scratch that; two was way too small a number. Maybe four? Or five, no, make it six. Maybe. The only thing she knew for sure was that something had to give, and it sure wasn't going to be her. Whether or not she actually joined up with anybody was irrelevant, as long as she ( Read more... )

Kagura wasn't sure what to make of Lockdown, but he'd been surprisingly pleasant at breakfast, even if he was a gundam. Bridget was alright, they hadn't been hurt last night, and now he was trusting her to find out more information on the club she'd chosen. She could do that.

Before she had time to throw a note together for the bulletin though, they were walked down toward the greenhouse. She looked somewhat sadly down the hallway where Hatori had worked as they passed it, but followed obediently outside.

She wasn't exactly sure how to take care of plants. That was something Tohru and Yuki were good at. Still, she picked up a trowel and started poking at what looked like weeds around some of the plants. How exactly could she be sure she wasn't ripping out the wrong ones?

[For name-twin! :D]

[huzzah! name confusion ahoy!]Whatever his name was, Kagura chose to forget it. The person she sat with during breakfast was a grumpypuss, but at least he gave her some of his food... though she had to force him to do so. Or maybe he didn't care. What was wrong with him anyway? Maybe it's that special period for boys that her ami talked to her about. Kagura shrugged ( ... )

Kagura startled when she'd been caught, dropping the trowel, her face red in embarrassment. She had absolutely no idea what she was doing and apparently it showed.

"A-a-a-ah I was um- That is- I..." she calmed down after a moment, though her cheeks were still a little bit red. "I don't um... really know what we're supposed to be doing. I'm not so good at this."

"Hmm..." So she knew less than Kagura did. That was rare. She sat down next to the plants and started stabbing them with her trowel with no remorse. Dirt was flying everywhere. That uprooted plant was obviously not a weed.

[for one pint-sized goddess]

Momo left her conversation with Utena feeling unsettled. She really hoped the girl would never ever experience anything remotely close to Aizen's betrayal. She truly did wish her good luck.

Heading to the greenhouse, Momo endured another berating from her nurse over her eating habits - or lack thereof. She wasn't going to be buying the I'm not hungry excuse much longer, even though it was the truth. Her nurse was worried about the side effects, but the shinigami didn't think there were any. She was tired, yes, but after being in this place for as long as she had, who wouldn't be? Sure, she was irritable, but again, who wouldn't be? Sure, she found herself staring into space, unfocused, for not reason, but she missed the three that had been taken from her ( ... )

Skuld couldn't have cared less about the greenhouse, but it did have one advantage--the storage shed near it. She couldn't go near it now, but it was good to know where it was.

She wasn't sure where she'd find Momo, but to her relief, the little shinigami (seriously, the girl was smaller than she was) was there, and didn't look busy.

She did look... upset, though. Skuld hesitated, but if Momo didn't want to talk, she could leave her alone. "Hi, Momo-san," she said.

Upon hearing her name, Momo paused and looked up. Oh! That's who she was supposed to be meeting.

"Hello, Skuld-dono," she said, her voice flat.

If she recalled correctly, the goddess hadn't spoken directly to her since that night she repaired the shinigami's sword. How much different she must look now with her eye. "Shall we sit?"

Skuld frowned slightly, worried; what had happened to her in the last few days?

A bunch of her friends died, idiot, part of her snapped.

"Sure," she said, a little uncertainly. She wasn't so sure she should be disturbing Momo right now, but... she'd see what happened.

"Look at all of these flowers! I know how much you love gardening, M - "

"Soma."

"Maria," finished the nurse without missing a beat. "Your father told me that you have a garden at home! I'm sure you'll feel comfortable here."

Her father again. And that stupid name. Soma shot a irritated glance at the nurse's retreating back. What was she supposed to say to that?

She turned her attention back to the plot of dirt in front of her. A trowel and a pair of gardening gloves had been set out, as well as some unidentifiable white flowers in little pots. Hesitantly, she put the gloves on, then picked up the trowel, holding it gingerly, as if it were an explosive.

Perhaps neglecting to mention to the nurse that she had never gardened in her life would have been a mistake.

Utterly confused but too proud to ask for help, she cast discreet glances at the people on either side of her, hoping to learn by example.

She'd apparently slept through breakfast. That, to Argilla, was definitely a good thing. All of the smells of cooked meat and other food tended to turn her stomach and make the demon within her begin to growl more. If they were going to keep her here, they should at least have the decency to let her hunt for her own meals rather than forcing inedible food onto her.

But the place that she was taken to now was much better. She smiled happily when she entered the greenhouse, seeing the flowers and plants which would have cost hundreds of thousands of macca to buy where she'd been from. She hurried over to a bench, not caring about planting them, but just wanting to see what plants there were. So many of them she didn't recognise. She sort of wanted to hoard them away, save them, even if there was no need here.

"They must be very rich to be able to afford all of these plants," she said absently, still not quite believing that it was possible for plants to grow naturally.

Soma looked up. The woman in front of her couldn't have been past her twenties, as seemed to be the trend here. She didn't think she'd seen this many people her age in her life, and almost none of them in the military. The realization was a bit overwhelming for someone who had never learned to interact with someone in a social context.

But at least this woman had approached her instead of the other way around. Maybe she knew how to plant these flowers.

"Must they?" Soma looked down at the pot in front of her. "I don't think plants are so expensive where I'm from."

Golden eyes. The girl had golden eyes. Like any of them would have in their Berserk forms. The thought amused her for some reason. Argilla nodded seriously. "There weren't any plants at all where I'm from originally. And when I went to a different place, they were rare. Mostly they only grew underneath a special dome which kept the sun's corrupted light from touching them." She reached out to touch the white flower. "You could sell one of these for thousands. That's a lot of ammunition for one little plant." Even if she always hated parting with them, necessities came first.

Being inside a greenhouse surrounded by various plants and flowers brought back memories, only two to be exact. The first one happened five years ago: her class had to grow a small flower by using any planting techniques the teacher gave out. After planting, the teacher collected all the flowers and placed them in a small greenhouse to grow. In the end, her flower had died before it bloomed.

The second memory happened a day before she woke up here. Shuji and her discovered an abandoned greenhouse in the morning. Inside they found a small group of big, bright, red and ripe tomatoes. They were delicious.

Noticing a patch of adorable marigolds, Chise walked over, sat down, and stared at the flowers.

[Hope you don't mind?]

Damn! It had just been on the tip of her mind! Mele glared at the nurse as she was lead somewhere else after her conversation with Scar. He'd named some place she hadn't recognized, but something in her mind had reacted to it; probably the mention of "pride"....

Flowers. Flowers, sun, Sun Room...oh right, the bulletin! Mele whirled, but the nurse wasn't in sight anymore and since Mele hadn't been paying attention to where she was being lead, she didn't really have a hope of trying to backtrack. She was going to have to fix that. Damn. Another chance lost.

She remembered the pens she'd seen in her drawer (and her roommate's). She'd probably need to go get one.

For the moment, though, she was in a house of flowers, and it looked like she was going to have to wait until the nurse came to move her somewhere else. Why she was going along quietly with this ( ... )

[Not at all!]

The yellow flowers reminded Chise the one day where she decided to buy flowers for Shuji, only to realize after giving the flowers that it was the boyfriend's job to give his girlfriend the flowers. Thankfully, Shuji had forgiven her (and called her 'stupid') for the flowers.

Lost in her memories, she didn't notice the stranger's presence behind her.

Even if she did get lost, could she actually just leave and run amok? That would negate the need for a pen though. Because the bulletin was something the organization of this place controlled, and she seriously couldn't expect to be able to access it if she were to oppose the rules outright. And-

Yep, all women here. Just her luck. She had to play by the rules, then. She hadn't already spotted him so she had to use something else.

...She was standing behind someone. Mele stopped just short of actually smacking herself on the forehead. Though if she'd let her guard down this far, she might as well have-

To make herself feel better about her lapse in attention, Mele ducked around to see the other girl's face. "Hey."

Fresh air after breakfast was nice, but Donna just knew it would leave her to start thinking about things she didn't want to again like having a daily shower, or going shopping, or doing normal things like she should be allowed to, or...

It had already started. Donna gave her head a shake, sighed, then approached a nurse asking if she really had to stay out here pondering just once if she shouldn't just deck the woman and make a break for it. The nurse told her that the Sun Room was also an option, but that was just as bad. Eventually Donna chose the outdoors to the stuffy in ones and started taking a walk around the place. "How lovely..." Donna grumbled out sarcastically towards the greenery.
