Day 36: The Sun Room

Oct 10, 2008 10:13

For the first time since arriving at Landel's, Elle woke up feeling... almost peaceful. She lay in bed for several minutes, adjusting to certain things. Mostly the fact that her left arm was in a sling. And her shoulder didn't hurt as much as she would have expected it to, which probably meant she was on meds ( Read more... )

It was more than jolting to wake up immediately following being attacked. So Elena had no problems following her nurse out to the sun room. She figured that Reno and Rude wouldn't be interested in anything spiritual, so this was the best option.

She was, of course, right for at least one of her partners.

"Rude!"

She rushed over, almost but not quite out of breath at the speed she crossed the room to reach his spot.

"Are you okay? What happened?"

"I know that," she shook her head in exasperation, sitting down on the cushion next to him. "I mean that monster-thing was after us, and the last thing I remember is that it was after you, and..."

She was rambling. It was embarrassing, but she did catch herself and stopped it with a deep breath.

"I'm okay, though. I'm guessing you haven't seen Reno yet?"

Kurogane was in the same foul mood he had each morning he awoke to find that he'd not gotten a single thing accomplished! Worse this time was that he'd gained an injury that made walking difficult. He'd have been fine to just deal with the pain in his leg, but the woman in white just wouldn't shut up about him having to use a pair of sticks (crutches, she'd said) to walk. It had been either those or the little wheeled chair he'd seen Fai in now and then, and she hadn't been letting him argue for neither. He'd be damned if he'd let himself be forced into one of those!

Slumping into a seat in the Sun Room, he let the sticks clatter to the floor and folded his arms. Just how long would be be forced to put up with this place?! It was worse than that Shura place! At least there he'd been able to fight whenever he damn well pleased!

Ururu didn't remember the man talking last night. Or what had happened in the fight. She didn't remember anything after feeling pain suddenly in her arm, and that made her very worried when she woke up. Shiki-san had been caught by that thing, and it had been hurting her! Ururu sat up in bed, wanting to leave quickly once the nurse got there.

Her arm still hurt though, and so did her body. And when she sat up, Ururu suddenly felt very sick. But she had to check on her friends, so when the nurse came in, Ururu hid it. Her right arm was mostly bandaged, and the nurse put it in a sling. The woman said she'd burned herself, but Ururu knew better.

It'd been the monster.

She couldn't get to the Sun Room fast enough, but when she got there, she didn't see Shiki. There was someone she knew though, so Ururu ran up to him instead.

"Kurogane-san!" The little girl's concern was obvious, especially when she saw the crutches nearby. "What happened? Are you okay?"

He'd determined that the best thing to do now was to get the magician and leave to somewhere other than here for a while when a familiar voice caught in his ears. Before even knowing where the little girl was, he looked down as he knew he would need to. This kid was so tiny.

"I'm fine," he said quickly, but noticed that she did not look to be so. His eyes narrowed at the bandages on her skin and the sling that held her arm. "Who were you with last night?" he asked suddenly, overlooking asking how she'd been injured for another matter. It was more who had let her be injured. Unless she'd gone out on her own.

Shiki had woken up and very nearly been ill due to the combination of pain and worry. She hadn't seen Ururu-chan or the other lady leave the room after she, Ken-kun, and Naminé-chan had left, and she was scared for them ( ... )

MOMO hadn't counted on falling asleep once Okita had gone, but she wasn't all that surprised. Working night after night with little to no decent rest became quite taxing after a while. Even if she still felt a little guilty about it, she knew taking a night to rest would do a lot of good.

When the nurse arrived to lead her from the room, the realian opted to spend her time in the Sun Room. She'd been in the chapel only a couple nights ago, and though things were different in day and night, the Sun Room sounded a lot better.

Finding herself a comfortable seat, MOMO leaned her head back and simply took the time to relax.

Well, that was the second night in a row he’d been spirited off back to bed right before something major. Unlike the night before in the patient possessions room, though, Ren didn’t quite feel the same kind of loss. Of course exploring the basement was worth the time and effort, but the entire night had been kind of a crazy whirlwind with no real thought to it, and putting an abrupt halt to it wasn’t so bad.

He’d let himself get dragged into it and probably would’ve gone all the way. All the same? Sometimes it felt better to err on the side of caution.

So the servant left a note on the bulletin board, just to check on Brook, then looked around for a chair to sink into. Visitors, huh? He was sure that was going to get everyone worked up, especially if Landel made another surprise visit to the chapel.

Ah, that was the girl he’d met not long ago, wasn’t it?

This time the doll offered an, “Excuse me,” as he took a nearby seat, a smile on his face. “Don’t let me disturb you.” They’d only been acquainted after a similar line, too.

Another disorienting transition, and Forte was "waking up" in bed again. It wouldn't be so bad, if it didn't muddle his last memories - instead of shutting down and starting up, he was standing around, ready to keep exploring, and now he was gradually surfacing to consciousness. This human body was just terrible about flagging status changes.

One thing was certain - he was going to get sick of hearing that man's voice pretty fast.

After a visual self-check (his foot was feeling better still, and the bandages had been changed), he found his hair falling in his face again - he'd lost the last blessed piece of outfit from the previous day. Opening his drawer to look for a substitute, he found a metal ring and a rubber band holding some pens together. The rubber band seemed most appropriate, so he fiddled with it and his bulky purple hair (why did they need to give him so much?), and managed to snap the rubber band on his fingers. It was about this point that the nurse came in to check on him, and fortunately took pity and offered him a ( ... )

Last night had proven amusing, at least, and though yet again, he'd failed to see any results, he found it didn't bother him as much as he thought it might. The place wasn't so bad, once you got used to the ins and outs. Aside from the doctor, whom he would kill slowly and painfully as possible, the place was fairly tolerable, even entertaining at times.

When he woke in his bed, once again, he placed his things away before the nurse arrived, and followed her without complaint. The message board was always fun to check first thing, there were so many things to be read, so much information that people just gave away.

"Mornin'" he said to the other man who was looking over the messages. He gave him a friendly smile, even if it was just a little too wide.

Forte was just trying to figure out how to write when he felt someone standing behind him. He turned around to see a man smiling and greeting him. So far, he'd met people that were friendly for no good reason, or just acted in their own interests, but there was something about this man's face that sent an involuntary shudder down his back.

"What do you want?"

Ooh, so this one was fiesty? The short tempered ones were always the most fun to tease; they gave the best reactions by far.

"Just sayin' hello," he shrugged innocently. "Ain't seen ya 'round here b'fore." He glanced for a moment at the message board. "Anythin' caught your eye?"

When Sai's nurse arrived to get him that morning, the ninja was in the process of searching every nook and cranny of his room. The closet had nothing. The bed, nothing. The dresser, nothing. At least not what he was looking for. The tools he'd acquired were all there and accounted for, but the creature...

What had he expected, really? Where was it going to stay during the day? And why, exactly, had he felt the need to remove it to begin with? No doubt whoever or whatever had brought him back to his room at the end of night had returned it to where it belonged.

"Simon?" The nurse looked concerned, and Sai turned to look at her with a fake smile in place.

"I'm fine," he assured her. "May I go to the sun room?"

There was nothing for him in the chapel. His nurse led him to the specified room with little comment, though obviously worried about his behavior over the past few days. He would simply have to behave himself.

Mello had expected to wake up in significantly less pain than he'd fallen asleep in, but unfortunately, the sensation was only mildly dulled. He cursed under his breath as he sat up, noting the cast around his forearm with annoyance but not surprise. Hopefully, the institute's healing was as fast as rumored ( ... )

As Mello approached, Sai returned the smile with one of his own out of habit. "As well as can be expected. You seem to have injured yourself." He wondered what or who the blond had run into in order to receive that injury, and whether or not he'd been alone when it had happened. Mello was an interesting individual.

One who he didn't recall as someone who would normally approach him with such a friendly air. The smile didn't leave his face as he asked "Is there something you needed from me?"

He took a seat on one of the sofas, leaving room for Mello to join him.

'Injured himself' was a little far from the passive tense Mello would have used in Sai's position, and he scowled at the mention before dropping onto the sofa with a grunt.

"I could use your help with something." He wasn't sure if Sai would be amenable to the arrangement. Even if Sai agreed, there was a high likelihood that he'd go easy on someone who wasn't a fighter, especially if that person was already injured. Mello couldn't afford that.

He looked over Sai thoughtfully, noting that the teenager's injuries had healed. That was a good sign.
