Late evening arrived in a typical fashion, the lights in the institute dimming to prepare for the hours ahead. The only stark contrast to other beginnings was the distinct lack of an announcement: no intercom jingle, no static, no details of Code 1-8, and no impassioned speech from an authority figure.
