I'm so glad you liked it! *HUG* Most abused women see themselves as cut off from any support system so I started to wonder how Eileen got so isolated. I thought of Andromeda and how she had been shunned for marrying a Muggleborn, and how Severus had made such a point of being the Half-Blood Prince. The woman in Severus's memories was completely cowed; I kind of saw her as giving up after this last-ditch effort to get Severus out of the abuse.

I think the idea that she would give up after this attempt is really plausible. To reach out and have the door slammed in your face would be galling.

Yes, he's pretty much a sanctimonious bastard. (In his defense, people like that often feel like they're "protecting" their way of life from outside threats. It's illogical and morally wrong, but it happens.) I'm glad that the story moved you so much. *HUG*
