FOOD: "Ding dong! Another bright idea from the people who brought you Beer Milkshakes!"

Never has this icon been more apropos.

Okay. So these started out life a very long time ago as an increasingly crazy series of Concept Cupcakes. You know. Like Concept Cars. The sort someone draws on paper before a bunch of
imagination-challenged paper-pushers level-headed executives point out the production-line model couldn't possibly make any ( Read more... )

I'm sorry for your loss.

But the cup cakes? *laughs* They look great with their shiny yokes.

I read this post in the middle of the night (as you do) and for *no apparent reason* felt really nauseous.

Those big egg eyes staring up at me...

I often find the middle of the night is the best time for reading people's posts, although not necessarily for responding to them - If you get a very strange response from me always check the time stamp!

:-DD I'm so sorry. Didn't mean to make you feel nauseous. *sends you a perfectly normal chocolate cupcake instead*

Oooo - how interesting! I suppose pureed baked beans is just like using flour made from pulses (like soya flour is anyway), so it should work fine. I think I'd personally make them savoury with cheese (and probably panchetta or bacon) as I'm not veggie.

Yum!

Completely forgot to add that I'm sorry for your loss too. *hugs*

Thank you! They did indeed come out much like a pulse flour, except they had the tomato sauce with them but that just melded into the mix as another liquid and really didn't change the flavour as much as I had expected. In order to really be baked beany, I think I'd have to boost the tomato flavour somehow.

Cheese is a great idea for them! That actually is real bacon sticking out the top of them. I'm not actually veggie either; I just like playing with my food :-D The vegan cupcake book has some fantastic ideas, and I tend to mix and match concepts and recipes from a number of sources, adapting them to my own, uh, inspiration.

And thank you. It's strange how shocking a death can be even when you've been anticipating it for months.

Good Lord... Your adventurous and experimental nature astounds me. Baked bean cupcakes would have been plenty exciting enough without the extra thrill of the icing.

I am sorry about your uncle. It hasn't sounded good since you first described the situation, but it's still painful when the end comes. Therapeutic baking sounds like a good response though.

Hee. Well I do live a very chaste and boring kind of life these days, so my risk-seeking nature has to find an outlet somewhere...

Thanks. No, it was never a good situation, and it was never going to have a happy ending, so it's a shame his death was so drawn out.

I'll have to see if I can think of a brass-band related cupcake flavour, as he was heavily involved in brass bands all his life.

Oh no. I'll take the blame for the prawn, although I still maintain it is not my fault the brits have a thing for prawn. But you came up with the salt & vinegar all on your own. Although, if you can make them, those I might be willing to taste test.

You're on!

It'll have to wait till after the 1/2 marathon though. Possibly even till later in the year. Salt & vinegar cupcakes seem like a more sort of winter flavour, don't you think? Or they perhaps be eaten during summer with a pint? Ooh! Lager frosting...

See! See! I didn't have to do anything and you've already come up with a frosting. Totally not my fault.

Yes, but I've been conditioned into coming up with creative ideas whenever we have discussions online, therefore totally your fault.
