No, I'm just insane. We're going out for Thanksgiving, too (we'll be in DC with Dan's family and are eating en masse at a restaurant in the hotel we're staying at.) But I thought I needed the practice (turns out I REALLY do) so we had friends over for it tonight. Yeesh.

How big's that bird? 2 hours, that's an 8-pounder, right? Here's my personal suggestion for how to make this day go a little better for yourself ( ... )

Ho boy, then I've definitely blessed them because this was ALL imperfect. It was too rushed, for sure. Lesson for the future: don't tackle too much. It's okay to cut back! I'm bad like that in general. I always think I can do it even when it's obvious to everyone else that I can't.

12 pounder. I should have allowed more time to cook. I got confused by all the different sites I was reading and miscalculated. Meh.

LOL at "Who is this, is there some reason he can't transport himself?" Yeah, that's my son, the Doob, who's 4. :)

Thanks for the good luck wishes!

Yeah, do the pies and whatever else you can the day ahead. And always plan on several extra hours for the turkey, because I've never had one that didn't take longer than I expected it to.

If the turkey thing happens again, feel free to finish cooking the meat in the microwave. Slice off what you need and then microwave until juices run clear.

I've done this in a pinch for chicken.

Oooh, good idea! I'll file that away and hope I remember it if it happens again. :)

Good grief woman! You are trying to outdo Martha freaking Stewart. My suggestion? Order out. :)

Heh! Well, I've been married 8 years and this is the first time I'm attempting a Thanksgiving, so that right there tells you how eager I was to do it! As in, not very eager!

Sounds like me the past 5 years! This year I'm making the turkey and my mom's bringing all the sides and MIL is bringing the sparkling grape juice. I'm also making one dessert my daughter can eat. Which brings me to the point, yes the whole wheat flour will add health value... FIBER. I'm learning a lot about fiber. It is why I have to make a special dessert with whole wheat flour for my daughter. Trust me on this. You don't want one of your children ending up like her in so much pain for a year (and all blocked up according to the gastroenterologist upon looking at the X-ray of her abdomen).
