I was a bit of a domestic wonder today. That Deceptively Delicious cookbook requires a bunch of purees so I made 2 cups spinach puree, 5 cups pumpkin puree and 1/2 cup red pepper puree to go with the chickpeas and cauliflower puree I'd made on Friday. Absolutely. In the book, this girl leaves Poland because it's under Russian occupation and she's in danger for teaching Polish to her brother. From one desperate situation to another...

I love the Dear America books! The coalminer's bride one is one of my favorites. I also liked the Titanic, the Oregon Trail, the Civil War... oh, heck, most of them. They're such pretty books, too.

I've only read this one and the one about the Sioux girl in the Philadelphia school so far, but I'm on the lookout for the rest. I love historical fiction SO MUCH and these are just great.
