City of...
by daedreams
Exiting the warehouse, Ianto let the rain wash away his tears. He rounded several corners before he finally collapsed in a puddle, effectively ruining his carefully chosen suit. As the rain began falling harder, he tilted his head up and let the cold wetness numb his face.
Here he was, in the city of his birth. Twenty-two years from when he started. It really wasn't that long ago that his life was all about comic books and football. Then his parents had died when he was twelve and he was sent to stay with his Nan. A women who loved her own son too much and hated the woman he had married, so took her ambiguity out on her grandson. Ianto was suddenly in a new school with no friends and an empty home. He left his Nan at seventeen and let London swallow him.
Until he met her. A women so beautiful, so intelligent and Ianto was the luckiest man on earth that she loved him. She had charmed her boss, an overly friendly woman called Yvonne, to get him a position where she worked, despite his lack of qualifications, and for two years it was perfect.
Then his universe was crushed and he wasn't ready. He didn't know how to be anything else, how to do anything else, but love Lisa. And that had led him here. To a strange man who wasn't quite as easy to manipulate as he had originally thought. But it had worked in the end.
But being offered the sought-after, and very vague, job as he walked away had brought him to tears. Because now there was no turning back. He had become the man that would define the rest of his life. And he wasn't quite sure if he was going to like being that man.
So he sat, in the rain, becoming numb from the cold, in the city of his birth. In the city of his betrayal.
