Melou will come face to face with Hisoka in that very corridor, since it is one that Hisoka often uses as a shortcut to a side door that opens into the gardens. As soon as he lays eyes on the young king, he sees that something is wrong. "Melou?"

Melou almost winces when he sees Hisoka. He was almost hoping that he wouldn't be able to find him, because then he could give up and tell himself he tried as hard as he could, and maybe he wouldn't have felt guilty about not asking. Maybe.

"Hisoka," he says, trying his best to draw himself up straight and look distant and unemotional, but it's hardly working. He's actually tearing up a little.

"Is something the matter?" Hisoka asks. He's never seen Melou's eyes shiny with tears, shed or unshed.

"No," Melou says, but it's obviously a lie. He even sounds upset.
