Thunder crashes
The storm rolls in
She watches with closed eyes
I watch her watch
Through all these years
I watch her start to cry

We both are watching, seperately
She sees, but she does not see me
The storms have always reached her, from the very start
The rain hides her tears
The thunder, her sobs
As lightning strikes her heart

She never trusted anyone, but God, she always cared
For everything and everyone, and that's what made her scared
And so she never opened up
No one else was good enough
She never told me how she felt
So I just watched her as she dealt
With all the perils that ride along with a heart three sizes too big
We tried to be with each other, once
She a lover, I a dunce
But even though we tried to make it work, she'd always zag just when I'd zig

She sees things no one ever could
She loves the bad as much as good
I've never met, never seen, never even heard of
A person so damn rich in heart, beautiful and full of pure love

The storm fades away
So ends another day
She takes a breath
Two
Three
She opens her eyes and looks over at me
She smiles, and I smile back
The blue sky fades away to black
We go inside together, walking arm-in-arm
She'll keep me from loving another
I'll always keep her from harm
She never told me how she feels
But somehow she knows I know
We have that secret understanding
Only I can make her glow

I have a secret of my own, I keep it deep inside
Every time I've watched her watch the storm and cry, I cried
Even with the way she knows the inner workings of my heart
She never understood how much I love her.
And she probably never will.
That's the saddest part.
The final rumbles of the storm die off in the distance
And we keep going. Following the path of least resistance.
