[Homura is not a part of the Shinsengumi, nor has he ever believed otherwise, despite his relationship with Ayumu. Yet being with her has caused him to spend significant item among them, and in turn shown him exactly how tight their bonds are. Heisuke's pain is obvious in his voice, and although Homura does not know the man very well, he understands that loss far too well. They'll all feel the pain of it, and even as he replies over the journal, Homura makes his way to the set of houses.]

[The voice is familiar. Quietly, Stephen responds.]

[Not too much later Ayumu joins him, sitting down on the steps without a word and setting her work basket on the ground at her feet. As though it's an ordinary day and she simply chose to set to work here through some coincidence, she simply pulls out some clothing that needed mending and sets to work in silence.]

[Hearing someone come near sets him on edge, but when he realizes it's Ayumu, it hurts all the more. What if she goes next? How many other people who can't ever come back will leave this place? She isn't saying anything though and Heisuke doesn't much feel like talking. Instead, he just grips his knees a little harder, trying to hide a little more.]

[Ayumu is all right with not talking, especially since she doesn't really have anything to say just yet. Another one of them has vanished, someone else she doesn't know if she'll ever see again, and she doesn't think it's right to let Heisuke just sit there by himself even if there's little she can do. So she just sits there and works, in a silent reminder of her presence, letting him acknowledge it or not as he wishes.]

[He's acknowledging her, but it sounds like he's talking to no one in particular. He's afraid she'll go next and then what? What would happen to them all then?]

...Don't go nowhere, Ayu-nee. I don't know if we can take it.

[Sano wanders over as soon as he hears the message and, without any warning, he shoves Heisuke over a little and plops down next to him. Lightly, he nudges Heisuke's shoulder with his own.]

[Sano. Sano understands. He's from a time where he knows everything. Heisuke moves over and raises his head a little from his arms.]

...He was just there, Sano. Just last night I talked to him. ...Now he's gone.

Yeah, whoever runs this place's a fucking asshole.

[Sano lifts up a hand and ruffles Heisuke's hair, leaving the hand there, resting against his head lightly.]

[It isn't fair, but the sensation of Sano's hand on his head is a familiar one. He misses that familiarity. He knows he'll never really get to experience it at home ever again so here....it's nice.]
