One of the neighbours....

It's been a nice, sunny, day today. I spent an hour after lunch weeding the fruit bed as the raspberry canes are coming into leaf, and planting some summer bulbs in one of the troughs. Whilst I was out there I heard the first bees, in the rosemary ( Read more... )

I was just about to say that’s a fabulous photo from a phone and then I kept reading lol! It’s a really lovely bird isn’t it. The weather is definitely getting warmer 16c here today!

I was so glad that I thought to grab the proper camera. The ones I took out the back with the phone were nowhere as detailed even though it was closer there.

We do not expect to reach those heady heights temperature-wise - predicted high is 10C, but it is fairly clear so it might be better in the sunshine as the day goes on.

Lol. Pigeons and seagulls are all I see on the roofs around me. What a beautiful creature.

When we moved a few years ago we only moved less than 1/4 mile, from a terraced house that backed onto the local playing field. So you would think the birds around here, where we have houses both back and front, would be similar or even fewer here.

But there we only ever saw seagulls, sparrows and crows. So the variety, and number. or birds here amazed us right from the start. The difference is that all the terraced houses had standard, smallish, back yards, where here we all have, somewhat bigger, gardens.

The first time I saw a heron was a real Wow! moment. My next-door neighbour, and probably some of the others, has a small pond and I wonder if that is why we see this one sometimes.

He is very handsome. (I say he - it could as easily be a female, really.)

Isn't it a lovely sight, those first green leaves that promise, hopefully, a harvest to come!
