Weekly View from the Window Post.

Today we have been waiting for the rain. It has been cooler, only 18C or so, and overcast all day, as you will see from the pictures. There has been a thunderstorm in the south of the island; a lightning strike set a house roof on fire - which is very, very, rare. But here the only precipitation was literally 15 tiny damp marks on the rear window ( Read more... )

It does look like things are getting a bit dry for you. I hope you eventually get the rain you're looking for, but in the flowers still look very nice despite the dryness.

The met men tell us it really is going to rain tonight... it has been a few weeks now and so the ground itself is very dry, and I don't bother watering the grass, it will recover when we do get rain :)

I don't water the bushes either, but I have tried to keep the flowers watered each day - and the I do the pea plants most days, although I didn't today as we were expecting rain. If it doesn't arrive overnight I will be out there with my watering can in the morning!

You have a wonderful piece of ground. Those red roses are fabulous!

It breaks my heart when I hear of house damage or loss, whether from fire, wind, or water. :(

Those red roses have done amazingly well - it has been their best season ever I think. And, once they finally pause, the ones at the back may well continue for a while longer, and the white ones at the back have new buds on :) I am hoping to keep some colour through till the autumn - we will see.

I don't think I have ever seen a house damaged by lightning here on the island before - fortunately there was nobody at home at the time, but imagine coming home to that!

The red rose is wonderful and I love your marguerites. I hope you get some nice gentle rain soon rather than torrential downpours.

The red rose is doing really well this year.

We have had about 15 minutes of gentle rain an hour ago, but it has stopped now. Another hour or two similar would be good.

I love the sun room on the house across the street in the first photo. You live in such a charming place.

It really is a nice place to live. Quite a lot of us around here have front porches like that one - I think it was the fashion when the houses were built in the early 1970s. They are a good source of heating on a cold but sunny day in the winter :)

Goodness, a lightning strike setting the roof on fire is a very scary thought.
The forecast here is that we might get some rain today. It seems like months, but is probably only weeks.

Isn't it scary!

We had some rain overnight - but not heavy, and not for long; the plants will have appreciated it.
