It is still hot for us; today's temperature in the shade was around 25C, in the sunshine it was somewhat hotter. Having posted the chapter of Transmitting yesterday I am on a bit of a roll and spent a while writing the next chapter, which is almost 700 words already ( Read more... )

I love Queen of Sweden roses, thinking of planting one this fall or in the spring. Beautiful garden !

Thank you. This one was just planted in February and has settled in well. She flowered at the beginning of this month and is really beautiful. I'm hoping for a longer flowering season next year.

The mature summer garden is a lovely thing. I'm glad to see the red roses...did they have a name?
The sea really is calm and that calm is contagious. I love it.

My garden is surviving the heat quite well thank goodness, so there is definitely some summer colour. It has that slightly somnolent feel to it, though :)

I don't know what the red roses are as they were well established when we came here. You can actually see in that picture that the left hand one is a clearer red than the right one, and flowers in sprays of five or six tight together, whereas the right hand one is a slightly pinker colour, and the flowers are individuals.

The sea is like a mill pond at present; it would be good weather to be on the boat, but no good for surfing :)

I think it's been a good year for roses.

It's all looking very green still - are you having to water the garden or is it OK without? I'm watering everything and then we had torrential rain yesterday LOL!

I water all the pots twice a day (they are below the level of the kitchen window so don't usually show), and the flowers around the garden most mornings, but I don't bother with the bushes or the grass.

We haven't had any rain for maybe 10 days now, but the grass keeps growing.

I know! But both the island's people and buildings are built for a climate that is rarely below freezing for more than 24 hours at a time, and rarely gets temperatures over 25C in the shade for more than 24 hours either :)

It means we are easily pleased though - nice hot weather is anything over about 18C!
