How the fuck does this guy function?

I cannot figure out how the man got into office, got on the science committee, or became a medical doctor!

He's an actual doctor and he believes embryos are from the devil? Wow. And not in the good way wow. I bitch and moan about our politicians, but I don't think any of them have publicly stated views like that.

How does a medical doctor function without acknowledging the existence of embryos or the validity of evolution? Modern medicine is rooted in evolution and I'm not just talking about resistant bacteria. Genetics and gene therapy are off-shoots of evolution. The fact that we can tailor medicines to someone's specific genetic profile is wholly dependent upon evolution. Evolution is the sine qua non of modern medicine. It's the reason vaccines and antibiotics work. How can you treat someone if you don't understand genetic drift, mutation, and reproduction?

How can someone pass laws dealing with agriculture if they don't understand how selective breeding works? How can someone eat any of the vegetables or meats in a grocery store and not understand that NONE of them are how we found them back in our nomadic days? How can someone vote on bills dealing with health care if they don't believe in embryos?

How can someone...oh fuck...I think my brain just broke again.

It's really kinda staggering that people in this day and age believe in the bible in a very literal sense. The idea that the Earth is only 9,000 years old? Really? So the scientific evidence that says the very rocks we walk upon each day is wrong? Do I even want to open the can of worms that is pre-historic man or, holy crap, dinosaurs?

I'm all for people following their faith as long as it harms no one. But allowing those faith ideals to govern how laws are written... I have some issues with that.

A local science group hosts talks and lectures about various topics. They hosted a "lecture" by a Young Earth Creationist. I think that guy and myself were the only ones in the room without advanced degrees. I have a bachelors. He was a tradesman. No shame in either of those, but when you're talking about geology, astrophysics, and all of the other "ologies" that come into play when trying to age the Earth, it's helpful to understand things like mass and plate tectonics. I sat between a physics professor and a guy who smashes atoms together for a living. There were about 30 or so people there ( ... )
