"On many occasions. There are evil deeds, and there are evil beings. No few in that room fall into the latter catagory. But, many who live deserve death. And some who die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Do not be so eager to deal out death and judgement, for even the very wise can not see all ends. Oh, wait... that's Lord of the Rings." The Doctor entered the room with a file folder. It was one he'd put together detailing some of the notes in the lab that hadn't been put into the files yet ( ... )

Dean and Sam entered the facility, looking for Daniel. No one was in the cafeteria at the moment, so next they tried the control room. In the control room were Daniel, Blaise, Alex, and The Doctor. They heard the conversation between Daniel and Alex; though currently Alex was speaking. "...I've only put the things away after we get them back."

"Does the drop ever include food or supplies you considered strange? Like for feeding non-humans?" Sam asked.

"What do you expect non-humans to eat? I'm partial to chips, bananas and cupcakes with those little ball bearing things on them. A good roast isn't to be scoffed at either. Ripley prefers more meat than anything. Or are we talking blood? Human flesh… or tripe? Don’t see how anything can actually eat tripe.” The Doctor looked at Dean curiously.

Once upon a time, a naïve archaeologist had an aversion to people messing with other people's minds. Then he discovered that unfortunately sometimes the ends did justify the means. In the case of these so-called doctors who were nothing more than glorified butchers - in some cases even more evil than the Goa'uld at their worse - anything that would get them answers. He didn't know what Scott's intentions were towards Ethan, but given Ethan's history, what had to be done had to be done ( ... )

Blaise had trailed along behind Dr. Jackson, staying far enough back to give Alex a little privacy. Her answer was loud enough for him to hear it. He stepped closer, squatting next to Dr. Jackson.

"Alex," Blaise said, "I'm not sure I'm understanding you, so let me see if I can get this straight." He paused, working out his question. If he was wrong, he'd feel a little foolish for asking. But things here were strange enough that his suspicions didn't strike him as ludicrous. And his daddy always said, "better to ask a stupid question than to make a stupid mistake."

"When you say you'll answer questions but you can't tell us what we want to know otherwise, are you...are you saying you can't offer unasked for information? Or just that you have no idea what we'd find important?"

Daniel exchanged a less than surprised look with the marine. He'd been thinking much the same thing, but hoped that he was wrong in that assumption. (Of course we're dealing with people who can trigger a practically comatose patient to become a killer.)

Alex gave Blaise a beaming smile, one that reminded Daniel of a parent lavishing praise on a child who just figured out a particularly difficult problem. "I can, but not in a way that you would understand."

Daniel frowned. He actually paused and considered before asking his question, "Why is that?"

"My brain is wired differently. I can see it and say it, but it doesn't make sense to anyone but me. But if you ask, I can put all the sensible parts together."

"Alex," Daniel lowered his voice sympathetically, "Is this -- wiring of your brain -- is it natural or was it done to you?"

She considered, then nodded. "Yes."

Blaise shared another glance with Dr. Jackson. Well, that seemed clear enough. Alex's condition--whatever it was, exactly--was the result of experimentation. Probably prenatal, definitely something that she'd grown up with. So much so that she considered it her natural state even if she knew it was done to her.

"Alex, do you know of a way we can get off the island? One we haven't discovered or thought of yet?"

Dr. Jackson's raised eyebrow wasn't entirely unexpected, but hell--every once in a while the "it can't be that simple" solution actually worked.

[Daniel] Wrapping it Up fikgirl September 9 2006, 13:39:27 UTC
"Wonderful," Daniel murmured with a roll of his eyes and a tired shake of his head. He wasn't surprised so much as . . . tired. Everytime he thought that they had a foothold, the island threw another damn surprise their way.

"You don't sound too happy, Daniel," Jon remarked.

Daniel merely glared for a moment, before turning back to the group as a whole. He wanted to do nothing more than wrap up this 'meeting,' hand the disk over to Rodney because that was his line of expertise, find out about the graveyard Sam and Dean discovered, and . . . yeah, still too many things to count and not nearly enough hours in the day.

(And speaking of Sam and Dean, they take longer showers than ten SG teams combined.)

"We're losing daylight, so I don't think going back over to the 'jail' tonight is a good idea. I want it checked out tomorrow, see if we can secure it and we'll use it for our 'guests.' Is there anything else?"

"Remind me to ask you about guard rotations when you get a free moment?" May asked, hoping Daniel would get the hint. If word got out about their mysterious guard, she wanted to have something to tell people that a) didn't start a panic, b) didn't give anyone the wrong idea and c) didn't cause Daniel to start beating his head against the nearest wall. He already looked like he'd been put through the ringer.

[Daniel] How About Now? fikgirl September 9 2006, 14:17:18 UTC
"Now's a good time as any," Daniel said. "Everyone present needs to be briefed, anyway."

"Briefed on what?" Jon asked.

"We have a friendly, but not quite human, guard," Daniel said simply. He folded his arms, leaned back against the desk/console and waited for the torrent of questions.

Showered and in clean clothes, the brothers jogged back to the control room. "What'd we miss?" Dean asked as they stepped through the doorway. He hoped no one commented on the god-awful Hawaiian shirt his brother had stuck him with after taking all of the decent clothes Adam had provided ( ... )
